Hello BigJohn; That part number appears to correspond to your requirements, thanks. Now the issue is: why does the RS-485 connectivity not seem to work with the ABB master? Standard connectivity on RS-485 networks usually supports the standard 3-8 +5GND sequence. And electrical levels are very different on RS-232 and RS-485. If you look at the following table you will see that for RS-232 comms you would be expected to use pins 2-3. This is from the 7SJ8 manual, that you can download from this page: The problem is that Siprotec is not a Siemens Automation product (the division that supports this forum is Siemens IA&D), but a product developed and marketed by the Siemens Energy division. And yes, they do not talk to each other very well. So I am not even sure that this can be answered by a Support request from the forum. MikeJ, a member here who works for the Energy division and who is kind enough to share his experience with us, has provided a link to the Energy divison support line. I suggest you use it to contact them about this issue.
