I had the same problem, running Step7 V5.6 on Windows 10 64-bit. My installation used to work, but suddently it stopped, with the same error. I have tried to reinstall/repair the installation as the error message suggests, but without any luck. I also tried to start the installation as an administrator - but still with the same error when trying to start Simatic Manager.

I then tried to start Simatic Manager as Administrator - and yes, now it starts without any issues.

needs to fix this issue.

 check if the Registry keys exists

HKEY_USERS\>UserSID_Classes\VirtualStore
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore

if yes then delete the keys and the SW should be run without the "Run as Administrator"

I had the same problem.

I deleted this key:

HKEY_USERS\>UserSID_Classes\VirtualStore

(The other key was not present)

Now Simatic Manager is working again.

I am experiencing the same problem, when I opened up my simatic manager v5.6.  Based on your recommendation, to delete the registry keys;

HKEY_USERS\>UserSID_Classes\VirtualStore
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore

Will the other softwares not affected if I delete these keys? I am attaching the snapshot of the registry keys. Do I have to delete the Siemens folder only? or I have to delete the virtualStore folder?

Hi,

I actually have the same problem. Everything was fine until I updated TIA v15.1 to Update 3. So, I ended up in this thread, but I was a bit afraid to delete whole HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore, because there were some Microsoft related keys. I deleted only HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Siemens and apparently it solved the issue. Just not sure if it is good idea to delete whole VirtualStore folder.

 Another Step7 start fail solved with this process.

Thank you Cristoph. I reinstall step7 more than 5 times, it still has this error.

But after deleting Registry keys HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore,

it works! no error any more.
