There is Simatic.NET OPC server for linux. I didn't try it, but hope it will have some good manuals and examples. billwest Posts: 510 Rating: (120)	i have used VMware V6 on Ubuntu Linux to run Step 7. I have used a bridge network to communicate between Step 7 and the PLC. I have been able to use the USB PC Adapter with VMware under Windows to communicate Profibus or MPI with the PLC but I have not been able to get the USB PC Adapter to work with Linux. salrandazzo Posts: 57 Rating: (8)	Same problem: - Linux Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit as a host operating system, i.e. the physical machine. - Vmware player 6.0.1 on Linux Ubuntu - Windows XP pro SP3 as a guest system, i.e. the virtual machine. - Step7 5.5 sp3 + HF3 (what is it?) on WinXP - USB PC adapter installed on VM with no problems, but not connecting with PLC. BTW, an RS232 adapter via Prolific USB - RS232 adapter perfectly works. Any news about the USB adapter? WHY UBUNTU? Because it's SLIMMER and so much FASTER than Windows. We use XP virtual machines because for a long time Step7 didn't work on Windows7. And XP Virtual Machines run much faster on Ubuntu than on Windows7

If I run my virtual machine with Windows XP and STEP 7 V5.5 in a Windows host machine , my USB-MPI cable connects with my S7-300 , but if I run the same virtual machine on a host Ubuntu machine, the USB- MPI cable not connecting with my S7-300 . I try to install the driver libnodave usb2mpi , but I'm not able to do. I use the same version 10.0.1 for VMware on Windows host machine and the host machine ubuntu . Thank you .

olloy Posts: 417 Rating: (37)	Hi! In this case you can write your program in Step7 undex virtual machine, thin just copu the blocks and download them to CPU withSnap7library, which works under Ubuntu as well.
