Data Logging on Comfort Panel (TP700) / WinCC - Multiple Questions

Fredikium Posts: 2 Rating: (3)	Hello, I have tried searching for these specific questions, but cannot find the answers I'm looking for - maybe not wording my search correctly. I hope I am not duplicating. I am using TIA Portal V12 to configure a TP700 HMI, and I have some questions about data logging. 1. Start Logging if USB Memory Stick inserted later - I have configured the "Enable logging at runtime" to be true, but what if there is no USB stick when runtime starts. If my customer comes later (hours, days, weeks later) and inserts a memory stick, will the logging then start automatically, or will it require a manual command to open logs and start logging? 2. Following on #1 - If the operator inserts a USB stick while the HMI is already running, can this be detected and used as a trigger to run a script that then commands the "open log" and "start logging"? 3. What happens if you issue an "open log" command when logs have already been opened? Or, what happens if you issue a "start logging" command for logs that have already been started? Will it cause any errors or corruption? Instead of using USB detection, I'm also considering sending these commands every 5 minutes so that it wouldn't matter if/when a USB stick was inserted, the logs would start up shortly after. 4. Assuming TXT logging, if an operator pulls the USB stick out without sending any "stop logging" or "close logs" command, will the data be lost/corrupted, or will the TXT file just be cut off and the data preserved. (my experience with text files is that they are pretty robust, but don't know enough about the runtime of these panels). 5. Is there a way to know the status (open/closed, logging/not logging) of the logs? I have one system which has a "Start Logging" button on the HMI screen, but there is no feedback to the operator - so they do not know if they have been successful in starting logging (or alternately, in stopping logging before they remove the USB stick). Some of our operators are ... less inclined towards computers, and don't like to be confused. Is there a way to get status feedback for "log opened", "logging", "stopped logging", and "log closed" so that I can provide feedback with the buttons on the screen? The historical data is configured to log to USB, so without the USB, I'm assuming there is no logging happening. - The log is enabled at runtime, however, if there is no USB when the HMI first starts up, does it still automatically start logging once USB is inserted, or will it be in an error state and need a manual command to start? I will give these script ideas a try for detecting the USB being inserted. If it works, that might solve my first two questions. Did you have any thought on #3 - what happens if you send repetitive "open" and "start" commands to a log that is already logging? This might be an alternate solution, where I just run a script every xx minutes so that, when a memory stick is inserted, it will just kick-off the logging at some point shortly after that. Regarding the system events, can these be monitored the same way that tags can? For example, could I use 80026 (all logs initialized) as a status on one of my HMI screens to show the operator that the logs are in fact logging? Are these events maintained, or are they momentary - I mean, will 80026 be true throughout logging, or is it a one-time message that appears once all logs are initialized? Cheers

I made a script to stop logging, eject the SD card, and another script to insert the SD card and start logging again, but how can the operator be sure at any moment that the HMI is in fact logging data.

I could memorize System Event 80026 (All logs initialized), but the causes for a log to fail are too various (network issue (am logging on a NAS), drive full, log file full, authentication changes...) to be 100% sure that all causes are programmed. I'm on TIA v15, TP900 Comfort Panel. Even though the original post is several years old, most of the replies seems still relevant. Thanks in advance!
