Hello dcabana23; WinCC Flexible (replacement product for ProTool) is basically an HMI programming software. Its main design is to program Siemens operator panels (OPxx, TPxx, MPxxx) for operator interface, but it also comes in a PC-based Runtime if required. WinCC 6.2 isSiemens' full-fledgedSCADA package, designed not only to allow operation of the project but also data acquisition, web servers, redundancy... It only runs on a PC (or PC combination as in server/client applications), and is much more powerful (and complex) than its Flexible cousin. To find out more details on these Siemens products, have a look at the Siemens HMI portal here: https://www.automation.siemens.com/hmi/index_76.htm?HTTPS=REDIR You can have access to brochures and technical data (data sheets and manuals) on both products if you need to understand this fully. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Hi, As Daniel said, with WinCC Flexible you can configure Siemens' operating panels and small SCADA stand-alone stations. It has more features than ProTool. I've heard that Siemens intends to supply only one HMI engineering tool, so WinCC Flexible was created to put panel programmers a little closer to WinCC, and in the future they would become only one tool. With WinCC you can have more advanced features, and options which provide some level 3 features (such as downtime monitor, historian...) and larger architectures, with client-server environments. Here's some info on WinCC and WinCC Flexible. Notice that both have interesting options, and that WinCC Flexible has different kinds of licence, so you should get to know the differences between them a little to specify the system. Best regards, Danielle |
