Diiference b/w network and topology views TIA Portal

ptakkar@knacksys Advanced Member Joined: 6/12/2014 Last visit: 4/6/2021 Posts: 55 Rating: (0)	HI I am working on TIA portal version 12. i created a network in Network view.but when i check topology view it show nothing connected and all ports available for connection. what is the difference between network and topology view. and what i need to connect in topology view when i have already connecetd in network view. You can use it or not use it and the project works the same. If you choose to use it, you can document your project a little better on how you intend it to be connected physically.

A port interconnection is not required to use RT, but it provides the following advantages: ● A set topology is assigned with the port interconnection. Based on an online-offline comparison, it is possible to conduct a set-actual comparison with all devices that support this function. ● The "Device replacement without exchangeable medium" function can be used. A port interconnection is an essential requirement for using IRT." Good Luck billwest

In the past, it was simply a way to document how you expect to connect things. What PLC families does it actually do something? S7-1500/300/400?

It works with Profinet CPUs 1500/300/400 and I assume 1200 but I am not sure of the Firmware version. billwest Up to FW v3, the topology view on S7-1200 has been purely visual and nothing changed in the project. With IO-Device support, maybe it makes a difference in V13. Thanks for adding useful tips to the thread

Pittiplatsch Posts: 1368 Rating: (116)	Hello, in the network view, you see the modules connected to the network (e.g. Ethernet network). For special port configuration (MRP, toplogy) you use the topology view. In this view, you first see only the modules with their interfaces. Now, you can interconnect the ports from the modules with your mouse. Place the mouse cursor on the port you want to interconnect. Click with the left mouse button and hold it down. Move the mouse pointer. The pointer now shows the networking symbol to indicate "Interconnect" mode. At the same time, the mouse pointer shows the lock symbol that will only disappear when the pointer is on a valid target. Now drag the mouse cursor to the target port. You can do this while holding down or after releasing the mouse button. Now release the left mouse button or press it again (depending on your previous action). Note Creating a ring for S7-300, S7-400, and S7-1500 CPUs If you create a ring using port interconnections for S7-300, S7-400, or S7-1500 CPUs, an MRP domain is created automatically.
