EM231 RTD Problems

danflodins Posts: 19 Rating: (1)	Hi I'm using four EM231 RTD in an application. Sometimes one or more of the modules stops the red SF lamp comes on (fixed). The PLC has to be rebooted to overcome the problem. I hade a cheap power supply and have now changed to a better one as I believed that was the problem, but it wasn't. I read here on the site there was a problem with these modules back in 2000. I bought mine in 2004 so i hope Siemens don't sell modules with known defects. The PLC is installed in a room where the temperature fluctuates a lot, a boiler room.I read the warning for these conditions and maybe a fan is the solution. Have youexperienced same as me, maybeyouhave a solution? Dan

danflodins Posts: 19 Rating: (1)	Hi No I have not been able to do that as the pumps stops to the boiler, priority has been to restart the PLC to avoid the system to boil over. I have installed manual switches for the pumps on the cabinet and I will change the program and try to catch what happens. It is four RTD modules on same PLC, any of them or more then one module stops so I can't believe the problem is with the PT100 or the program. I checked the power budget and the modulesis using 573 mA of the avaliable 660 in the 5 VDC system, can that be a problem? 24 VDC is taken from separate power supply. I have a feeling that the room temperature has something to do with it as there is no or very few problems during the summer when the boiler is on light duty. Regards Dan Flodins

Jim W. Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	I have the same exact problem with the RTD modules as Dan has, and have cleared the fault by disconnecting the ribbon cable to the RTD modules. I noticed the suggestion to check the PLC Information; I did that when there was not a fault, thinking maybe something would be logged, but it wasn't. So does this need checked when in a fault condition, and if so, will there be an error message or code, and where would I find the documentation needed to correct the problem? Thanks, Jim
