thomash3 Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Hello, I've noticed, that there is a new card for S7-1200 (12MB - 6ES7954-8LE01-0AA0). Can I update firmware in my S7-1200 controller with this card or I must use 24MB card? Best regards Thomash3

But http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/38709962 starts with To install the CPU firmware update, follow these steps: Insert a blank SIMATIC MC 24MB memory card into an SD card reader/writer attached to your computer... So, I guess is not possible to use 12Mb. Anyway perhaps if you try it... Best regards, Hristo Mihalev

bakerjw Posts: 126 Rating: (18)	The update for a single type of S7_1200 PLC is around 9MB in size and should fit on a 12 mb card. I am not sure how the updates are released but you should be able to locate the file for the PLC that needs updating.

If this is a true, Siemens should correct that "updated on 01.12.2011" FAQ as newer card has been released on 14.10.2011. To mention also that the price of that card is still quite high and is not a half price of 24Mb. thomash3 Well, I'll try to update my CPU's when I get the card, this is the only way to find it;) Best regards Thomash3 For sure. Most of the Operating System updates are more than 2 MB, that's why it's a 24 MB card now. Ideally if the OS update is less than 12 MB, then a 12 MB card must do. (work fine) But still if the OS update is more than 12 MB then the only option left out is 24 MB card.

Marko Bursic Posts: 1410 Rating: (154)	IMO There should be a possibility to download firmware via PG, if it stucks you have also a possibilty to use MMC. Anyway, next time I will buy a S7-1200, Iwill request the latest firmware loaded in plc, also in case the new firmware will add a bugfix, I will send plc to siemens for "repair" it. It is very "Siemens" style to sell you a good plc for reasonable price, and then they sell a MMC for double price of plc in order to make thngs working. It is not such big investition for one company that buys many plcs per year, but even then you can loose the MMC on airplane or forget home when you will mostly need it. So, Siemens, think a little more practical and user friendly, you can still do it if you wish.
