How synchronize two conveyors with encoder

I have one conveyor with encoder ( 1000imp/rev ) and i need synchronize second conveyor to the same speed like first one. The second conveyor is with frequency inverter controled by analog signal from plc. I have PLC ET 200S IM-151CPU6ES7151-8AB01-0AB0 with counter card6ES7138-4DA04-0AB0. I think at first I need calculate speed from encoder. I can count impulses per second, than I know how much revolution per second is speed on the first conveyor. But I don't know how from this number, set up output frequency for second conveyor Thanks for every help. Roberto

(pulses/second) 3. is encoder on conveyor shaft or motor and are the rations (gearbox, etc) the same? 4. what is ramp up/down time for conveyors? what You could do: 1. on every conveyor start RESET FM350 channels used for encoders 2. you could use PID loop to keep position on both conveyors same as they run. this will keep speed synchronized (there may be some dynamic lag) 3. when first conveyor stops you may need stop second together and reset PID to prevent reversing if coarse method is needed Ypu can configure counter card to measure speed / frequency and use pid to keep frequency of slave conveyor same (frequency == frequency of signal from encoder!!!) hope this helps Piotr

metwally mustafa Silver Member Joined: 10/10/2010 Last visit: 2/10/2021 Posts: 296 Rating: (14)	speed synchronization can easily made by using servo motors and a shaft encoder coupled wiith one of the conveyors ,you can use a master setpoint for your line speed and after that generate a setpoint for the second converyor by means of PID speed controller , let the actual value is the encoder reading of the master conveyor and the setpoint of the PID will come to the drive to follow the master at the same speed
