Import Protool Project into Flexible 2008 SP3

With this configuration I'm not able to import Protool Prject. There is no more command in main menu (see attached image) Is something change? Anyone tried to do same job? Thank you Ciao Hello it won't be possible. If you have WinCC Flexible 2008 SP2 installed on another station with WinXP, then you cand do it easily. Please check this entry: delivery release: Service Pack 3 for SIMATIC WinCC flexible 2008 Entry ID:57267466 Because of the neccessary changes for the 64 Bit support under Windows 7, the ProTool migration cannot be offered any more with Service Pack 3 for WinCC flexible 2008. Hope this helps.

When you are familiar with some software the normal thing is to like it. I almost sure that if someone said: I hate (doesn't want to work) with some software (specially Protool)...the real sentence is: I don't know how/what to do? IBN-Service ... Idea:Upload the ProTool Project to the forum, I am quite sure that a lot of people like to convert the project to Flexibel for you... I made backup of my VM station before upgrade to SP3 so now I will use backup likeconverter. My was just a question to understand I something wrong in my installation. Ciao

Ciao Hello Fabio068, Yes that's very good solution for your case. But If we thought generally, I think that it is a mistake by Siemens. Actually I need migration tool from Protool project frequently, and I do not like to upload software online to recieve migrated WinCC flecible. I think that this option should be availabe in the next SP. Hopefully. And I hope that Siemens Developer will read my request.

Darius Platinum Expert Joined: 9/28/2005 Last visit: 9/16/2020 Posts: 2957 Rating: (235)	Hi Ayman, As you said earlier, this option was removed because of some changes needed by 64-bit, so I don't believe it will ever be available again. I use the same option - I have mu old Field-PG M and I use it for old software, just transfer licenses if needed and I can do whatever I like. On my new Field-PG M3 I have windows 7 and newest software, so I need to live with it and some restrictions as in this case.

May be uploading software here is a solution, but in fact many customer will hate us as we are publish their solftware online in this case. I have a new suggesstion, amd again I hope that WinCC flexible developers will read it. If there is an online service (like a wizard) and any user have a login account can browse his protool file to upload a recieve a migrated file. I think this service would be more professional And as we are here in just a forum. I am agree that many users here will have the pleasure to convert software, but we should always have a trusted and reliable tool. And also after few years and may be monthes all of us will move to SP3. Am I right? Please let me hear about your opinions.

Many of the times we have seen that people who are familiar with siemens software stuck up with such issue. Now for everyone it is not possible to install VM. I must say thanks to all our experts/members who always come up with best possible solution and that's why i love this fourm.

It requires two Windows systems on your machines. First (support) system with (up to) WinCC flexible 2008 SP2 - it will allow you to convert your ProTool projects to WinCC. The second (main) system with WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 to open your projects already converted in first system. Yes I know it is a bit annoying. If there is any reason that SP3 cannot import ProTool projects then it is very complicated and silly and ridiculous (in lack of better words). I feel a bit like a donkey still trying to stay by Siemens panels. I thought that it would be great to upgrade from OP7 to OP77A (by the way you are not able to convert directly to OP77A, first you must convert to OP77B). It is unbelievable that Siemens does not deliver simple, easy, quick and free of charge converting software for their old panels, PLCs and other systems. I spent hours checking where I lost the conversion utility after upgrade from SP2 to SP3. I opened documentation included on the SP3 DVD - \documents\English\Manuals\WinCC flexible - Migration.pdf and HEY SIEMENS GUYS there is no option available during installation that can be selected in order to install Migration software neither in SP3 nor in SP2. In the SP2 it is installed by default and users notice that it is installed when they start WinCC and see Open a ProTool project. I hope that someday, some company will start deliver their panels that will replace 1:1 in size with a software to simply and quickly convert Simens projects. or just emulate the Simatic panel enviroment and able to run binary backup. As for now I find only one good thing having Siemens software and hardware - you will always learn something "new" and see how to complicate simple things. The same with Step7 and Windows 7 / 64. Every other supplier anticipates customer needs, tests software on new (prerelased) systems before they are available on market. The funny thing is that Siemens still delivers Step5 and still in this obsolete interface. Someone who ever tested S5/S7 for Windows knows what I am talking about. ... enough ... Kind regards JK

This will cost you € 300,- every time but saves you tons of trouble like with the importing Protool projects. So 1 laptop or PG with DOS 6.21 for Step5, 1 with XP for protool and WinCC 2008 SP2, 1 with WinCC 2008 SP3 and STEP 7, 1 with TIA portal..... and a USB stick... Another advantage is that on the older laptop with, for example, Protool the RS232 port is still available for programming the older panels. So no need for USB converters and IRQ or COM port conflicts ..

So no need for USB converters and IRQ or COM port conflicts .. Hello, I think using Virtual Machine is a better solution coz you don't need to buy "new laptop / PG" for every new Siemens software. All what you have to do is to make several VM with the compatible software packages with certain OS. So, you may need to use just an external HDD to save on it these VMs and that's it.
