Hello, In specification of CPU is mentioned (Number of operable FMs and CPs (recommended):
Take a look atModbus communication with CP 341as the same is mentioned inmax. no. CP 341 coonect to CPUtoo. Best regards, Hristo Mihalev

Hi Umencho, Thanks for the info. I need to connect totally 200 Power meters and i have a limitation that at the maximum i can connect only 5 power meters to a CP card. Huge volume of data to be obtained from Power meter and this places a limitation of connecting only 5 meters per CP card. An IM153-2 module and 10 CP cards per IM station shall be used. Is it possible that total of four IM stations, 10 CP card per station, shall effectively solve my problem to connect 200 Power meters. The system arrangement designed is attached herewith for your reference. Can you please suggest whether is it an effective and optimized one?

Hello dinecs, it should be possible to connect more than 5 power meters to one CP. You can’t fetch the data of all power meters connected to one CP at the same time, you can only address one power meter after another. So there should not be a problem with the amount of data you have to fetch from one power meter. |

Hello dinecs, as an alternatice you can think about using a gateway that acts as a Modbus RTU master to the power meters and as a Modbus TCP server to the CPU 317. In that case the CPU needs to be the Modbus TCP client. You can find more information about Modbus TCP on a PN CPU here: |

Thanks Ratedx and Sakura. If it is not technically feasible to fetch data from all the power meters in a single cycle, then i will not have any restriction on the number of Power meters connected to a CP card. Considering Rs485 physics and Modbus RS485 protocol i should be able to connect 31 Power meters per CP card. Please confirm? On a safer case, assuming 15 Power meter per CP card, i should be able to satisfy the requirement with 14 CP cards, i.e. 8 in CPU rack and 6 in IM rack. Kindly request you to confirm this...
