Hi, One more thing you have asked about recording and monitoring of KVAH values ( import and export) Pls inform your furious end-user to learn his basics first. In KVAH, there is nothing called Import and export. As you should know the following terms:- KVA= V x I Total ApparentPower KW= Vx I x cos phi Total Active Power ( productive Power) KVAR= Vx Ix sin phiTotal Reactive Power ( Non-productive Power) The ‘Productive Power’ is the power that is transferred from electrical energy to some other form of energy (i.e. such as heat energy or mechanical energy). The apparent power is always in excess of the productive power for inductive loads and is dependent on the type of machine in use. The working power (KW) and reactive power (KVAR) together make up apparent power, which is measured in kilovolt-amperes (KVA). Hence, KW and KVAR are the components of Total Apparent Power. This is the power which is genrated by the Utlitity companies and trasmitted for distribution. Cannt be termed as Import/ Export. Hello Valli Thanks for your Suggestion Regarding Min Current Setting. We will definitely try this and shall post the result here. Regarding the "Basics" suggested by you, and we fully agree with you on this. However we have already tried to argue this out with the customer. However there are two isues where we have no answer : a) Most other Competig makes of MFMs ( Including Schneider , which is the main competitor here ) have the kVAH Import / Export metering facility. Basicallythey want separate cumulative readings of kWH , kVARH and kVAH based on Direction of Power Flow.( Import / Export ). So the obvious question is Why does PAC3200 which is costing twice the cost of other meters not have this facility ? b) Part of the Utility Billing is based on kVAH utilised / Exported as the customer has a captive power plant, due to which the Net Power from utility is sometimes Export and sometimes Import ( Depending upon the Generation and Consumption within the plant ) Hope I am able to clarify the situation. There was another curious problem we faced that the PAC3200 does not indicate ( On Profibus ) whether the power factor is leading or lagging. This we overcame by evaluating the kVAR sign and applying the same to p.f. when displaying on SCADA. Thanks a Lot Cheers Navnag |

Hello Valli First of all many thanks for your detailed replies to my posts. We are a System Integrator for Siemens and have no love for Schneider Products. However having said that, facts remain facts and speak for themselves. 1. Schneider EM6400 MFMs with IE Option are what we are up against. Here is the Link to the Manual of this meter. This meter ( and Many others ) provide the following Energy Readings : kWH - Import , kWH Export kVARH - Import (Inductive ) , kVARH - Export (Inductive ) kVARH - Import (Capaciive ) , kVARH - Export (Capacitive ) kVAH - Import , kVAH Export It is obvious that PAC3200 falls short in this department. Calculated values of kVAH are ruled out as there will be inherent calculation error ( Due to Square Root etc ) 2. Meters are being used for Energy Management with B.DATA which picks values every 15 minutes. So there is really no advantage offered by using Profibus. The Snail Modbus is equally good at this. I hope that Siemens also incorporates these additional calculations in the PAC meters in the next version. I believe it is only a metter up updating the firmware of the meters to add these features ( Including the p.f. sign ). Thanks again Cheers Navnag |

Dear Sirs, We recently found that the Power factor values in PAC 3200 are mismatching with the other type of Meters connected in the system and in Power factor correction Capacitor Banks. Can anyone tell the reason for the same? Regards AK
