Profibus communication Ramsey Micro-Tech 9101 problem??

Hello everyone,

i have problem with this Ramsey Micro-Tech 9101 scale that i installed. Everything is okey with connection i dont have any error he picks all weights and everything is nicely showing on screen. The problem that i have is when i want to take data from scale to plc.

- connect Ramsey with profibus to plc

- installed gsd file for 9101 version

- made slave address 22 on scale and in program

- made 48 in/out words

- made on scale that he give display values

Everything is great no errors and everything is fine, but then when i take QW from Ramsey he all wheys gives me 0.

I made it like this:

First i read input/output word from Ramsey in Tia portal

I: 376....471   Q: 256....351

then i found tabel from Ramsey with offsets that gives me Load, Speed, Rate and they are

Rate 33, Load 35, Speed 37

then i took QW256 + 35 for load and i entered QW291 in Force Table just to see what he will give me but like i say he give only 0 and for each number i enter he gives 0.

Then i read i manual that you need to first write some sort of request so that Ramsey can give you value on output. So what i did i fallowed guide it say:

00 -> scale 1

01 -> scale 2

etc

and for second part of hex you chose what you want to read i mean hat block:

00 is i/o, alarms etc the thing i need

01 is batch read block

02 status

etc.

so i took 0000  basicly 00 for only having 1 scale and 00 because i want i/o, alarms etc.

put that in input in force table like IW376 and force it with that hex(0000) but it still dont give anything on QW only 0.

I will attach cutted PDF part for profibus so you guys dont need to look for it it is only 14 pages. If anyone can help me it would be great!

Hello,

you need check values in IW or PIW area not in QW/PQW, if we talk about PLC addresses and PLC side. If you need set something to Slave use QW or PQW area. You can also set whole WORD value or set some bits independently or BYTE but it must be of course inside address range.

 Listen when i check what are I - address and Q - Address in Tia portal for scale she show me

I: 376....471   and  Q: 256....351

and scale is cnnected as slave.

So can you tell me/write me what should i do exaclly because this is my first time doing this so i dunno much.

if this is your I/O area of data exchange

I: 376....471   and  Q: 256....351

you need look for values in I area (in this case 376 is BYTE address). If you put in Watch table IW376 you can look to whole WORD starting from 376 to 377. Next WORD is from 378 and so next. If you look via BYTE only values 376, 377, ... are your solution f.ex. Nothing special, you can set your 'watching' criteria. In manual (sry didn't look to it) if you have some offset value like f.ex. speed is on address 20, you need count/add + this offset to base start value of I/O buffer. Then there you have your value probably. same with set some bits/values for control of signals/send commands f.ex. but in this case you set to Q area. Nothing, start familirize yourself with manual again and again, via some time and tests you can get to lucky solution. also you have good working system of PB communication now, as I understand from your post, so this is first important

 Yeah i did that first time i try it. Took 376 and i tryed to put hex 0000 so that scale give me access to the information for only one scale on block 0 informations that holds i/o, alarms etc. Then i took 256 and i add let say load is 20 i add that 20 to 256 so it is 276 and i put all in watch tabel but it is not working. And that hex 0000 that i put i put it with forcing in watch tabel. But like i say i still get only 0.

again, you need look to documentation if some set of some kind of <command> maybe bit or other value type you need to do. You simply can't do tests like set some random values to some addresses. Also again, if you need set some your request (command???) you need set this to specific Q address. If you need read value of speed or other, you need look to I address. I see now your attempts force to I area as irrelevant/unpossible. Maybe your situation is f.ex. to read speed value you need set f.ex. 5-th bit in BYTE 380 -> Q area. Then Slave know what you're request for and put on also specific I address value of speed. Also I expect after this that reset of that bit is required. This you need check in manual.

 No value is not random i read in manual for hex 0000 is that first 00 is that you have only 1 scale and second 00 say what block of memory you want to read. Thats why it is 0000 it is not random...

I remember working with a Ransey Thermo controller a few (long) years ago, and I recall that you have to follow the steps as given in the Ramsey manuals very closely for this data exchange to work.

For a test, let's try to make at least one data transfer correctly.

You have defined 48 words In and 48 words Out for the Profibus slave, and have received addresses for these buffers.. Remember that all addressing is done from the master's point of view

So the input addresses, 376-471, are inputs to the PLC, data coming from the Micro-Tech controller.So READ commands will enter the PLC through these addresses.. 

And the outputs addresses, 256-351, are outputs ot the PLC, going to the Micro-Tech controller.. So WRITE command will exit the PLC through these addressres.

Since these are Profibus addresses, they are outside the input/output image tables, and must be addressed as PIW 376 to PIW 451, and PQW 256 to PQW 351.

Communicating between a master and a Micro-Tech slave requires you to send a WRITE command to the slave, composed of at least 4 words, as described in the mnual youa attached, page C-72.

I suggest you create 2 DBs, one for Write commands (transmission), the other for Read commands (reception) Make them 48 words long each, with the first 2 words of WORD format, the others in INT format.

We are now attempting the values of the 3 variables you mentionned, Rate, Load and Speed at offsets 33, 35, 37. The fact that these values are occupying 2 words would indicate that they are floating-point values, if that is the case we will have to read them as REAL registers in Step 7. 

In the transmission DB, write w#16#0000 in the first word (Block identifier); for slave #1 00, for  GN number 00, as you determined earlier.

Then write 16#w#0021 in the second word, the hex number of decimal 33. (This second word holds the starting offset of the first read variable.

In the 3rd word, number of registers, write decimal 6 (for the total number of registers to be read).

And in the 4th word, write decimal 1. This is simply an identifier for the specific command you are writing to the slave. It might become useful for when you need to identify the dta that the slave sends in reply, to place it in seperate DBs, for instance.

Once this DB is ready (as stated in the manual, these are the only values required to request a Read command. Any further values in following these are simply not taken into account, since you are sending nothing in the DAT area at this time; this will be different when you enter a Commands value, GN number 100, for example.), we can start sending the Write command the the output addresses of the PLC.

So in your program use MOVE instructions (in LAD) to transfer the data to the first 4 output addresses(Say we determined that the transmission DB was DB20, the Reception DB was DB21.)

DB20. DBW0 -- MOVE --> PQW256

DB20.DBW2 -- Move --> PQW258

DB20.DBW4--Move--> PQW260

DB20.DBW6--Move-- PQW262

Then, prepare the reception buffer (you need 4 words for the header information, plus 6 words for the data: total 10 words)

PIW376--Move--> DB21.DBW0

PIW378--Move--> DB21.DBW2

...

.PIW394   --Move--> DB21.DBW20

Normally, since the master reads n the values from the slave cyclically, you should start seeing returned values i your reception DB. Try the steps above, and tell us if anything appears in the reception DB, or if any diagnostic appears on the PLC or the Micro-tech controller.

Hello again,

tryed what you told me to try and now he throw profibus connection error on scale display.

What i did is:

i made 2 DBs like you told be with 48 inputs in each DBs first 2 to be WORD and rest of them INT.

Then i put 16#0000 in first WORD and in second 16#0021 and in INt i put 6 and in second INT i put 1 like you wrote in db as starting value that goes to QW256 - 262 with move blocks.

Then i made move blocks with db for write this 4 paramiters and after that made 10 more moves for reading from IW376 - 394 to db for reading same procedure first 2 places are two WORD and the rest is INT in this 10 reading moves.

Please tell me if i did something wrong i am complete beginner in this maybe i did wrong db or something else?

Here are pictures of move blocks for read and write. i couldnt take picture of complete read move block but after first 0 everything else is zero.
