Read comm status of HMI on profinet

gdglisch82 Posts: 56 Rating: (1)	Hi, When using Portal V13 professional I understand how to read the status of profinet IO nodes using the "DeviceStates" function. Is there a function or way to monitor the status of multiple HMI's? The HMi's do not seem to have a device number so I do not think "DeviceStates" will do this. The CPU is an S7-1500. Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. Hi. Which HMIs do you have in the network? Basic or Comfort? It should be possible to create a "I am alive" pulse that originates from the PLC (set) and gets cleared from the HMI. Would this be enough for you? w

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1204)	The COMFORT panels offers you much more. If setting a signal high from the panel - I do not think that will be helpful. What if you set the bit at regular intervals? In the BASIC panels I would make the bit set at each page change. Then have the PLC reset the bit. This way I know if the panel is actively used. With the COMFORT I am sure you can rig something to refresh a set bit at regular intervals. You could even have an event that monitors the bit for going low.. then the event simply let it go high. Personally I have not worked on COMFORT panels. I am sure however you have enough to chew on until someone else comes along or you solve the problem yourself. Okay?.. Good. w

It seems easy enough, I just want to explore all options. Thank you. With the data coordination between the HMI and you can see if an online HMI is still working. One of the configuration bits is a heartbeat that you can use to detect the system is offline. You can also detect what screen is currently being displayed as well as push new screens to the HMI. This is a little bit of a hack in my opinion but it works well for single HMI projects, and less well the more HMIs you have - unless you want all screens to show the exact same thing at all times.

What configuration bits are you refferring to? Thanks. Dear gdglisch82, like huggy already mentioned this can be done with the "life bit" of the comfort panel. Quoting Siemens TiA Portal manual: Life bit The life bit is inverted by the HMI device at intervals of approximately one second. By querying this bit in the PLC program, you can check whether or not the connection to the HMI device still exists. Do a search on Area pointer "Coordination" in your TiA portal help. You can enable the coordination area pointer by going to the connections tab of your HMI device and click on "Area pointer", enable Coordination and select an address. The coordination area pointer has a length of 1 word, and the thirth bit (DBX0.2) is the life bit. First and second are startup bit and operation mode.
