Hello DS_7; A1. Yes, that is the LSB of the Control Word. Note that the LSB must see a rising edge in order that the start command be recognized, which is why you should write hex 047E to the Control Word, and then hex 047F so the LSB goes from 0 to 1. A2. In hexadecimal numerals, the four decimal digits represent each a hexadecimal value; dec 0 is actually hex 0000; dec 3 would be written 0010, etc... so 047E is actually 16 bits long. A3. An example: if you give a start command to the drive (047E, then 047F) but you have given no speed reference, the drive will not run, until you write hex 2000 to the Speed reference word so the drive runs at 50% max frequency. If you write a speed reference but do not give a start command, nothing will happen either. If the drive is running CW at 50 % and you give a CCW command, the drive will slow down, stop, and start again, in CCW rotation. Basically it is of no importance the order of the commands to the drive it will operate when all the logical requirements have been met for the drive to operate safely. The Control and Status Word descriptions, bit by bit, are available in the main Profibus communication manual for the MM4 drives in section 3.3: Operating Instructions: MICROMASTER PROFIBUS Optional Board https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/6586565 By the way, this manual should be consulted every time you face any problem or need a clarification with Profibus comms on a MM4 drive, it is very complete and easy to follow. A6. You only use Control Word 1 and Status Word 1 with a Micromaster drive; my experience is that you will need Control Word 2 and Status Word 2 in a Masterdrive MC or MV, a more complex machine. A7. You can set the basic parameters for Profibus comms on the MM4 directly over the BOP or the AOP. You can also change any operational parameter on the drive in the same way, for commissioning purposes for example (see the parameter list below; there are similar manuals for the MM 430 and MM 440). However, doing it through a software such as DriveMonitor or the newer Starter makes your life much easier, keeps a record of the set parameters for examination or later downloads, and is recommended especially when you are working with multiple drives with different parameter sets. In this case, you will also need hardware to connect between the PC and the drive to read and write your parameters.
