S7 400 Motor speed using pulse width modulation?

Alehol Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello! I am wondering if there is any way for me to control a motor using pulse width modulation on my hardware. I have a small motor controller board that im using for this application. The board is originally meant to be used with an arduino, but i'm given this task by my supervisor and i'm determined to make it work! Hope anyone can at least put me in the right direction at least! Equipment: 412-1XF01-0AB0 CPU 422-1BH10-0AA0 Digital outputs 432-1HF00-0AB0 Analog outputs Thank you! Alexander Holmen

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 2/26/2021 Posts: 10445 Rating: (2210)	Hello Alehol; The only type of module that will generate PWM outputs on a S7-400 rack is a FM 453 servo/stepper controller module: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/document/2123608/simatic-fm-453-servo-drive-step-drive-positioning-module-?dti=0&pnid=13851&lc=en-WW If you need a less expensive and complicated module, you could use a ET 200S 2-Pulse module in PWM mode, or a Compact S7-300 CPU (such as the CPU 314C-2DP) that includes positioning technological functions, and set them up as a DP-slave to your S7-400 CPU. You seem to be not quite sure that PWM would be the solution to your project design. Can you tell us more on the motor control board you plan to use? Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

I have the possibility to use an arduino inbetween the plc and the motor controller board, so i will investigate if that is the best solution. The motor controller board is a DfRobot MD1.3 2A Dual Motor Controller (SKU DRI0002). Thank you Alexander Holmen
