Simotion D and Modbus TCP

Is Modbus TCP possible on the new Simotion D controllers?

There are no libraries that I know of. I know Simotion D is technically capable of it because it has all the necessary low-level communication. In the command library look under Communication-Data Transfer, and you'll see things like _tcpOpenClient( ). But it does not know how to speak modbus TCP so you would have to write a program to do it.

As you are probably aware of, the S7-1200/1500 has a library.

Are you already using an S7 Failsafe Controller (Safety PLC) in your system? Since we're in the situation that Simotion D is never going to get to be a safety master, perhaps run the Modbus TCP library in your safety master (probably an S7-1500) and transfer over the information to Simotion using I-device.

Or throw in an inexpensive S7-1200 and have it I-device over to Simotion.
