Thyristor protection

sim1998 Posts: 31 Rating: (0)	Hello, I have problem with Thyristors that are burning, when stormy weather appears ( Power failure ) Fuses before Convertors 6RA70 are as recommended, gS. Sometimes fuses burning, but also and thyristors. Fuses are easy and fast for changing, but for thyristors I need some time, delays ... Thermal magnetic circuit breaker on the power supply of the line is 500A. My question is how to protect it, which effective protection to connect on the power supply voltage ?

IBN-Service Posts: 8946 Rating: (1000)	Thyristors should not burn regularly. I am quite shure, something is wrong with control board. No, there are nearly no fuses that burn faster than a Thyristor. Use the recommended fuses for maximum protection.

Sometimes fuses burning, But reading well he says have fuses gS (I think upstream of Simoreg) , in my area called gR but is the same (I think),either an issue of ugly power or connection upstream of Simoreg, it happened to me , but once in 10 years (with stormy weather).

sim1998 Posts: 31 Rating: (0)	For DC drive 6RA7031-6GV62-0-Z, 3 fuses before drive are 100 gS ; For 6RA7075-6GV62-0-Z, 3 fuses before drive are 250 aR. Before every drive I have line choke. For surge arrester I will check.

sim1998 Posts: 31 Rating: (0)	Hello, For DC Drive 6RA7075-6GV62-0-Z, I use Recommended 3 line fuses Siemens ЯU 3NE3227 250A aR A²s=48 000. Thyristors (armature circuit) are SKKT106/18E H1A²s=25 000. Can anyone tell me Which Fuses I should use for protection of thyristors ( < 25 000A²s )? I couldnt find fuses in Sitor Catalog. (For DC Drive 6RA7031-6DV62-0-Z , I use Recommended 3 line fuses Siemens ЯU3NE1021-0 100 A gS A²s=33 000. Thyristors (armature circuit) are SKKT106/14E H1 A²s=25 000. I Found 3 line fuses Siemens ЯU3NE8 021-1 100 A aR A²s=4 200. I will purchase and put them instead of 100A gS A²s=33 000. Fuses now will protect and burn before thyristors! )

PISCEAN 2010 Posts: 8092 Rating: (884)	Hello, The AC input side fuses, you mentioned, are recommended by Siemens, based on engineering & design data of these drives. So respect their engineering & please do not try to replace those. About your problem of thyristor failures, have you studied the probable causes & tried to eliminate those? e.g. load condition, incoming supply quality like frequent power failure, dips, surges, voltage unbalance etc? How is the load cycle S1 or S4 or S6? Is drive rating & load rating matching? Does drive trips frequently on specific fault etc. etc. HTH.
