Upgrading to Windows10

Dear friends,

It is really tempting to install windows10 (which pops up every day to ask me if I would like to install it).

I have Windows7, SIMATIC STEP7 5.5 SP4 and WinCC flexible 2008 SP3 installed.

I know there are some steps to install Siemens software on windows10, but what will happen if they are already installed, and I upgraded to windows10?

Will this affect anything like databases, communication, ...etc.?

1.) you should uninstall the Win10 notifications, and the KB Update which install thsi PopUP

2.)if you use the system in a productive environment don't update to a not supported OS

3.)Update to Win10 contains a high risk that something is not working, FW rules not active, SQL Versions not compatible, user access permission not corect ....

I am currently using windows 10 with a virtual machine for running windows 7.

From first day the forced update anoyed me, so for just using windows 10 as a main operating system I can not recomend it.

I used the Registry Patch from this german side to "fix" the windows popup.

Older Patches do not work because of MS wanting people to use their os. With the forced updates and changes I am going to use win 7 for as long as possible.

 why a registry Patch or Hack?

Uninstall the Windows Update KB3035583
Reboot PC
Start Windows Update, the KB3035583 now shown as needed -< Right click on it -> hidde update

Now the Notification is uninstalled, and the "update" not installed anymore.

I have do this on all my Windows 7 Systems, no problem.

Hello, 

There are some trials to install SIMATIC programs on Win10. It's possible but with some errors.  You can check these trials if you searched here in the Forum. 

But til now Siemens didn't put Win 10 in their compatibility tool for any product. 

I don't know their plans.  But they should go for Win 10 as currently Win 7 cannot be ordered from Microsoft. 

My recommendation is to wait until siemens approve it. They may release a service pack to avoid such errors with Win 10.

At this moment, PCS7 v8.2 is released for delivery. At the moment only clients are compatible with Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB.

The rest like engineering and server stations will follow...
