I think in C it should be correct:
SetTagChar("my tag", GetTagChar("my tag2"));

In VBS:
Dim objTag1
Dim objTag2

Set objTag1 = HMIRuntime.Tags("my tag")
Set objTag2 = HMIRuntime.Tags("my tag2")

objTag1.Read
objTag2.Read

objTag2.Value = objTag1.Value

objTag2.Write
