3RW4 tripping on thermal overload

sparten Posts: 205 Rating: (11)	Hi Expeert, i am using SIRIUS SOFT STARTER with part no 3RW4046‐1BB14(45kw) ...i have connected motor of 10amp,5.5kw... my problem is that when ever i gave start command to soft stawrter motor run for while and then after soft starter got tripped on fault "Thermal Overload on Device" (Device led light yellow and Bypass/Failure led light up Red Continuos) .. .is it due to small range motor conneced to soft starter??? or another setting problem in Soft starer??? i have set Ie=42.5,Rampup time=10s ,tripping class=10,rampdown time=10s,current limit(*ie)=2

LesPaul Posts: 467 Rating: (59)	hello, Yes ist because of a to small motor. The softstarters 3RW40 do need a Minimum load20% of minimum selectable rated motor current Im (at least 2 A). That means in your case: Ie=80A / Im=43A 43A x 20% = 8,6A minimum. Your nominal current of the motor is 10A, so only in case of a fully loaded motor (--> 10A)the softstarter will not trip with failure (DEVICEgreen & FAILURE red). ==> While starting you will have more than the necessary current of 8,6A, but after the motor has reached nominal rpm it seams that you have less than 8,6A. kind regards LesPaul
