the manual of 3RW22 shows, that the energy saving option makes much sense for small motors (low ratings, e.g. 2,2kW), because these motors have usually not the same high efficiency as big motors with high rating (e.g. 110kW) have.

Butnevertheless : the energy savingfunctionality can be used / enabled for all motor ratings.

Only for motors, which have 'driving loads' (like wind mill applications), there you should be careful with the energy saving functionality :

if enery saving operation isactive ( = the voltage at the motor terminals is lowered down to a value, which guarantess the rated speed at no load / partial load condition) and now the load speed is risen (e.g. because of more wind in case of windmill applications), then it is possible, that the motor will be operated very soon with oversynchronous speed => to avoid unacceptable high speed, we recommend to disable in such applications the energy saving option.
