comunications via TCP-IP with multiple Network cards

SilvioG Bronze Member Joined: 10/7/2010 Last visit: 9/11/2025 Posts: 103 Rating: (7)	Hi to everybody I have a PC with Siemens Wincc 7,2 that have to comunicate with 4 PLCs placed in 4 different TCP/IP networks. In order to make those comunications, I've installed 4 network cards on this PC and under Control Panel >> setting PG-PC Interface, I've configured 4 access point, each one refferring to his proper Network card in My Wincc application(Tag Management), I've added S7 Protocol suite driver, and I've seen under 's7 protocol suite driver' >> TCP-IP that I cant' insert more that one logical unit name (I should insert the 4 access point create above). (see the attachment below) how can I make this?.. or are there any other ways? thx in advance Attachment TCP_UnitName.jpg (740 Downloads)

bg2492 Posts: 7298 Rating: (2188)	Hello SilvoG it is not possible to set there more then one access point. You can only use any other subchannels for more communication interfaces, but with other type of communication. Regards Georg Berghof

For SilvoG case above, if he managed to configure all 4 networks into 1 network, what is the maximum tags (workable) TCP/IP can handle? Can it handle total more than 20k tags (analog + Digital)? Should I use CP1623? I experienced that after I removed 400+ tags from the PLC, (meaning I removed my program and DB blocks in PLC) the WinCC become extremely slow response /lagging. I am not sure if that is due to my configuration, but it happened after the DB blocks removed. Thank you and have a pleasant day~ Sytupit

bg2492 Posts: 7298 Rating: (2188)	Hello Sytupit, this is a question of available ressources (CPU-speed, size of RAM a.s.o) of the PC. WinCC can handle up to 265000 tag, if you have a suitable hardware. If you use a CP like CP1623, the CP makes the communication and the PC only takes over the values (A CP is an own small computer). If you use a common network-adapter, the PC has to do the whole communication themself. If you have removed the tags from the PLC, but not from the WinCC-project, WinCC will try to access the tags futhermore, but because the addresses (DBxxx,DWxxx) are not longer available on the PLC, it will get a lot errors of "illegal tagaddress", what makes the communication very slow. Sytupit Posts: 42 Rating: (3)	Hi Georg Berghof, I am using a common network-adapter now, if i would like to change it to CP1623, do i have to change my WinCC project communication driver from SIMATIC S7 Protocol Suite-TCP/IP to Named Connection? From my research so far, Named connection required program modification in PLC right? I have to add in a PC station and link up the PC station in Netpro, generate a xDB file and configure it in WinCC sttation. What can I do to increase the performance without touching the PLC? bg2492 Posts: 7298 Rating: (2188)	Hello Sytupit, the CP1623 can be used for different protocols, you do not need to use named connections. You can use it with ISO and TCP/IP transport protocol in the Simatic S7 Protocol Suite. ISO is Industríal Ethernet (via MAC-Adresses) Regards Georg Berghof

Solution is in the last message! I faced with the same trouble and the solutiond helped me! It is amazing, but in Set PC/PG tool both my adapters are active simultaneously. Also in WinCC in TCP/IP connection only one board can be selected. But they both are working, when runtime is launched!
