liew Posts: 32 Rating: (0)	Hi expert Lafrasil,Helmut_13,Betel and all expert, I'm having alot of issues just getting an analog signal into my LOGO! 12/24RC/RCo. I have checked a pile of forum messages and tutorials online, but none of their answer solve my problems. The following are my problems:- 1) Analog input 0-10v/4-20mA module Can I do simulation direct inject 0-10V/4-20mA to analog module from external power supply??? 2) Analog Output 0-10V Can I set output limit to 5V only???? If my LOGO! hardware is 0BA3, can I use the above module???? If cannot, which model of hardware is the best for me to apply. Please expert Lafrasil, Helmut_13 & Betel guide or give me advise of above issue. If can, please me give a simple circuit for more understanding to how to apply the module ? I have posted the similar forum on the 28th May but the were not replied or responed. I hope your all experts can help me to solve my problems. Thank you.

UMENCHO Diamond Member Joined: 3/21/2006 Last visit: 11/1/2024 Posts: 10229 Rating: (1181)	Hello, I'll try to answer of your questions.In the beginning we should say that configure your LOGO! to use either two or four analog inputs as described in topic "Setting the number of AIs in the Basic Module" part of Manuals, configurable:LOGO! . When using inputs I1, I2, I7 and I8 as analog inputs, only the range from 0 to 10 V DC is available. 1. Yes, you can "simulate" directly AI. Just be careful for inputs current and voltage limits. 2. No, I think you couldn't make limit of 5V. Eventually in software to make some "interpretation"... Best regards, Hristo Mihalev

(Please remember that many of the 'experts' on the forum are people who work full-time and who help on the forum when thy have spare time. You says you posted a question on 28.05.2010 and are upset that you did not get an answer! This was weekend time for most people and they would not have been on their PC's. Many people would like to help, but please keep your 'tone' on the forum to a friendly way, thanks!) OK, first part of your question. 1) If you are using a LOGO! 12/24RCo 0BA3, then unfortunately, the analog OUTPUT module AM2 AQ will NOT work with this CPU. 2) In LOGO! Soft Comfort, it would be useful to do the following - first, update your version to the highest possible version from the internet (V6.1.12 = SP2 I think) - from the menu bar, HELP, then UPDATE CENTER, then from INTERNET, then select the correct UPDATE - it will then happen automatically. - check with menu bar, HELP, then ABOUT to see if you then have the highest version. 3) Make LOGO! Soft Comfort work with only the commands that will be suported by the end/target device (0BA3). Do this as follows... - open a new project in LOGO! Soft Comfort (LSC) - in the bottom right hand corner, you will see a small picture of a LOGO! and a LOGO! type name - double click on this - Then you can SELECT HARDWARE for the type of LOGO! you have or are going to write a program for. - Select 0BA3 Standard. - then you will see under the RESOURCES that this old LOGO! does not support ANALOG OUTPUTS. - this means that in your LOGO! program for this old device, you will not be able to place analog output blocks and the LOGO! will not know what to do with a connected AM2 AQ module. 4) LOGO! 0BA4 was the first version to support the AM2 AQ (but only 0..10 V also the 0BA5 could do this) 5) LOGO! 0BA6 could be set to use either 0..10 V, 0..20 mA or 4..20 mA output signals - from menu FILE, then PROPERTIES, then PARAMETER 6) LOGO! 0BA4 & 0BA5 could generate a 0..10V (M & V) analog output signal with the AM2 AQ OR a 0..20 mA output signal (by choosing the correct wiring terminals M & I), but they could not do 4..20 mA 7) UMENCHO's answer about setting the number of analog inputs only applies to the 0BA6 which has the possibility of 2 or 4 Analog inputs on board using the digital inputs I7 & I8 (as AI1 & AI2) and then I1 & I2 (as AI3 and AI4) 8) You CAN use an analog input module AM2 with 0BA3, 0BA4, 0BA5 & 0BA6 9) If your CPU is LOGO! 12/24RCo 0BA3, then I7 (=AI1) and I8 (=AI2) are already fixed. So to use the first channel of analog input on the AM2, in your program, this will be AI3 and the second channel will be AI4. - In your program, place four AIs and then delete the first 2, leaving AI3 & AI4 behind - OR place an AI1, then double click on it and change its number and OK the warning message 10) SIMULATING 0..10 V or 4..20 mA from an external power supply (!?!?!?!?!) In simulation, you do not need any hardware connected. LSC will simply simulate the program you have created. - when you start the simulation, then click on the glasses and the green triangle to make the simulation 'play' - when you click on the analog input block, you will get a slider to move left & right to simulate an analog signal going into the program. (SIEMENS is the ONLY device that can do this!!! It is pretty awesome) 11) To 'directly inject' a 0..10 V or 4..20 mA signal from an external power supply.... This means that you are doing on-line MONITORING of a LOGO! connected to the PC with the programming cable and you want to see inside the program what happens when a REAL signal goes into the REAL LOGO! ? -Please rmemeber that you CANNOT do on-line monitoring with 0BA3. This feature was only available on 0BA4 and then only in FUNCTION BLOCK mode, (also for LADDER mode on 0BA6) 12) To make such a 'direct injection' of a signal, you first have to generate either a 0..10 V dc signal or a 4..20 mA signal. - 0..10 V dc: You can make this quite easily from a12 or 24 V dc power supply, with a 'Voltage Divider' where one of the resistors is a variable value POTENTIOMETER. You will have to work out the resistor values yourself (not hard) - to make a 4..20 mA signal is a bit more difficult, but you could use the same voltage divider and then use a 'shunt resistor' of the correct value (250 ohm or 500 ohm - with avery low tolerance, high quality) to get a current signal. - this topic hasbeen discussed by me in detail also on this forum but I cannot remember the thread - just search for '4..20 mA') 13) Set the output limit to 5V It is possible to limit the output so that it never goes over 5 V by writting some clever programming. I know it can be done, but I right now do not have the time to make a programto show you. -use an analog amplifier just before the analog output block that drives the AM2 AQ module, and set the MAXIMUM to 500. -This will make sure that the internal integer value (between 0 ... 1000) that the LOGO! uses to represent all analog values, will never go above a value of 500 and therefore the output module will never generate an output above 5.0 V (on M & V) or 10 mA (on M& I) or 12 mA (M & I on a 0BA6 if this property has been set) 14) Best module to use The latest & greatest CPU and module to use is always the newest. Always try to get the latest type of LOGO! possible. - if you can get a 12/24 version (RC or RCo), you can always useat least 2 of the digital inputs as 0..10 V analog inputs. You can even get a 0..20 mA or 4..20 mA signal into these 0..10 V inputs if you use a special shunt resistor (see a post on this forum about this and what to look out for) - then you only need an AM2 AQ to generate the 0..5V output that it seems like you want.
