Hi,

if you have a Linux PC you can plug in the SD card of the IOT, then you have access to the file system of the IOT.

There is the file /etc/shadow. It contains the encrypted passwords for the users, for example:  

root:HsgS6XiedDj8Dh6D:11656:0:10000::::

 The value between the first and the second colon contains the password information. If you remove this value, your user doesn't have a password anymore. 

After that the line looks like this:  

root::11656:0:10000::::

 

Then plug the SD card back in your IOT and you can login with the user without password.

 I have the same problem here...lost root password. I installed a Linux Mint machine in my PC using a VM from Oracle Virtual Box, and now i could access the file shadow but...when i try to open the file using the text editor, the system says i am not authorized to open this file...

Any comments to overcome this?
