You first need to update the project in steps, and after you have saved it with V13 SP2, then you can use never TIA versions to open the project with. There is just one catch, the hardware in the original project needs to be available in v16.

They may have all the hardware required to perform the required work to get your project accessible to your PC. Since the current project is .ap10, you will first want to update the PLC firmware to v2.2 (from 1.x). That requires a Siemens memory card suitable for upgrading S7-1200 firmware. From V10.5 SP2, next is V11 SP2 with FW 2.2.
