we are having problems with a panel - there is no MAC or IP address in Online&Diag. Normally, it is quite easy to repair the broken OS caused by students, but it is different this time.

Do you have any suggestions?

We are using:

6av6 647-0ad11-3ax0 + ProSafe v17

Hi  Byrpierce,

Have you already checked that the cable is in good condition? Can you ping the HMI from the PC?

If so, try to keep the HMI powered off during the whole process and power it on right after pressing the "Update OS" option.

Also, temporarily disable the PC's firewall/antivirus and run ProSave / TIA Portal as administrator.

Yes, I have tried 3 different UTP cables with no success. It is not possible to ping KTP, because there is no IP address (just 0.0.0.0).

The procedure with turning OFF/ON panel I'm using normally. I'm always receiving 'No connection could be established. Please verify your settings, interfaces, cables, device type etc.' error.

Normally I have no problem with uploading the OS to KPT panels

I'm always running programs with Administrator rights (ProSafe, TIA). Firewall (ON or OFF) does not have effect.

Hi again,

If you can't even ping the HMI... I recommend you try the Reset option via USB, following this FAQ:

USB Recovery (Reset to factory) Mode for 2nd Generation Basic Panels

If it is also not possible to update the OS later this way, or to ping the panel, maybe it should be sent in for repair!

Those 1st generation HMIs did not give us too many options. Are you able to place the HMI into its 'download mode'?

Perhaps it is best to speak directly + formally to Siemens.

Oh, I didn't realize it was a first generation Basic Panel.

In that case, I totally agree with qwazee that you should open a Support Request for further study.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. In fact, I'm not able to bring this panel back to life. The only thing I know is the MAC address (displayed on the panel) and it's not enough. The panel could be found connected to the PC ... Hardware problem is possible.

An IP address is 0.0.0.0 and the situation is the same in TIA Portal (MAC 0.0.0.0 and IP 0.0.0.0).

I think I have to open a ticket in support.

I will keep this topic open for now. Maybe I will find the solution to present here :-)
