I am currently trying to migrate a very old S7 project to TIA Portal v18. I am given many errors for DI/DO/AI/AO modules that are no longer supported, ie. 6ES7 132-4HB00-0AB0. I can change these to a module that is supported ie. 6ES7 132-4HB01-0AB0 and this should fix it with a warning, but no error.

My question is for the ET200S head module, I have some in my project that are 6ES7 151-1AA02-0AB0 this is does not look to be supported. Can I change this to 6ES7 151-1AA04-0AB0 or later in my project, and use the older physical head module without issue?

in my opinion you can't. I did many tests with expected mix-es because I didn't have right module at my place but no lucky. It is also correct to say that special comm IM modules for PN/PB was used and tested and no luck. It is also same as your expected situation, use old module with new from catalogue selected and - no luck. They haven't indicated errors but no expected functionality. It's up to you, if you have chance to test, do it but I'm afraid that maybe only typical DI/DO cards acn be replaced with this system (some of them working to me), no IM for DP/PN racks accessibility because generally special modules require some IM special data exchange functionality.

I projected it as you suggested, and have used the old catalog gsd files for 6ES7 132-4HB00-0AB0 a 2DO module. It appears that each card is occupying 1 byte each of the Q address. It will not let me pack the addresses. 

Is there anyway to pack these addresses? If I address a bit outside of x.0 or x.1 will this use the next card? Its almost like TIA Portal sees it as a peripheral.

It is not permitted or it does not work if the old module is installed but a newer one is configured.

The modul 6ES7 151-1AA02-0AB0 had his product cacellation 2003, so it´t not contained in TIA.

So try to project it with GSD.
