I need to make some modifications to a machine.
I have made and downloaded the modifikations in the PLC with Simatic Manager and that worked.

Now I need to connect to the basic panel with TIA V18 and download the modifications to the panel.

When I try to search for the panel (or any available components) with TIA it does not find anything at all.

Is there a PG/PC setting in TIA (different from the setting that just worked in Simatic Manager) that I need to set or what am I doing wrong?

Why are you trying to go online to a Basic panel?

If TIA can't find devices in the download, try to restart your PC and try again. Sometimes the network adapter causes this behaviour.

Thank you for answering.

You are naturally right that I don't really want to go online to the panel. I want to download my changes to the panel and in order to do this I need to connect to the panel. And when the search function in TIA did not find the panel (or anything else) I tried to connect in other ways.

My TIA portal is running in a virtual machine just like my Simatic Manager. The IP address for the machine is set on the host computer. I had just downloaded the PLC changes to the PLC with Simatic Manager so the network adapter SHOULD be working OK.
I naturally already tried restarting the virtual machine before I posted but I will try again.

Any other settings I might have forgotten that I can check?

Your problem might be the VM settings, and someone knowing those could tell you what needs to be checked.

In the mean time, put a USB stick to the PC, drag-and-drop the HMI in the project tree to the bottom of the tree to Card reader/USB memory -> your USB stick. It will create a file there. Then put the stick in the HMI and go to the control panel and in the backup/restore section you can select the USB with the project file nad download it through that.

You can very well be right but I don't understand HOW the VM-ware setting could be wrong when the are working with the Simatic Manager to download PLC modifications in the same VM-ware machine?

Than is a good option. I have to take some time off for personal reasons but I will try this in the beginning of next week.

CAN I do ANY download when I cannot find any compatible devices when I search?

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working.

I found an USB stick and dragged and dropped the HMI to the USB memory.

I checked on the stick and it has created a folder called "Simatic_HMI". In this folder there are 2 folders: "Firmware" and "RT_Projects".

I found a (brand new and empty) panel in our spare parts and powered it up. I inserted the USB stick and went to the restore section on the panel.

It found the USB stick but when I go to step 2 it does not find any archive files.

What am I doing wrong and how can I make this (workaround) work?
