Hi.

I'm new to TIA Portal. My customer has given me a template to use for a new project but the new project uses a different controller. The template controller uses a 6ES7 516-2GN00-0AB0 firmware version 2.6. The new project uses a 6ES7 194-4AP00-0AA0. How do I change the controller without losing everything that would be deleted if I deleted the controller and added a new one?

Are you sure about the part you want to change to? The part you quote is not equivalent.. no PLC functionality, as far as I can tell. See the link: 6ES7194-4AP00-0AA0 

To change a processor:
* Open the hardware configuration.
* Right click on the picture of the processor.
* Select Change Device
* Select one of the available options.


The same procedure is possible when right clicking the CPU in the project tree.

Quick change over is not possible if the PLC option you seek is not there. Speak to Siemens to test if they have other ideas to transfer information from one CPU type to another type. It may involve exporting some data to XML files.
