Siemens uses a standard SD slot and you can read a Siemens supplied card in a PC but the PLC requires an expensive Siemens SD card for all functions. Firmware updates, Program memory, or Transfer, they all require the Siemens card. The PLCs are inexpensive compared to the competition but Siemens makes up for it partially with the price of the memory card.
