Hi,

Im planning to add a set of new I/O rail (4 DI & 2 DO) to our Siemens existing system. We have cpu-417H fault tolerant system and the procedure I will work on adding new are as per below:

1.)Modify the exisiting Hardware Configuration adding the new interface and I/O modules.

2) Download the modified HW configuration in the CPU.

3)At the last rack of the existing system, using the inactive pofibus network connect the new interface module to the exisiting and wait till the fault on the module cleared. Then do same to the reduandant module.

Can you advise me if the above procedure is correct and safe that our operation will not be affected during this activity?

Additionally, we have I/O railin the exisiting system (rail 2, that has only 6 analog input module). Im planning to add 2 DI module to it. Can I add this module hile the bus is active? do I have to modify first the HW configuration before adding the module? please advise?

Thanks for your response and information.

So it means it is more safer to add all components before adding new module or additional rail to the existing profibus network?

But with regards to termination of additional rail to the exisiting profibus network? the procedure I mentioned above is okay? first i remove the termination on the standby network and connect the additional bus. After completing wait till the standby network goes normal. Then if it goes normal I can remove the active profibus network and do the same procedure? Additionally, before doing this procedure do I have to turn on the (resistor terminator) on the profibus connector on the last node?
