Regarding the connection, I am concerned about the Banner output, which is current sinking, while the EM231 is also a current sinking input.

In fig. 2 current should flow out from the sensor and into the EM module.

I connected the Banner module with the analog input according to the attached picture.

This Banner module has a sinking 4-20mA output on pin 10.

Unfortunately, even if I can measure a voltage between A+ and A- of the 1st channel (approx. 2.3 V), I can get nothing in the AIW  (the value is around 208). The current measured between A- and Banner analog output is approx. 8 mA.

If I connect a voltage source to A+ and A- I get values in AIW4.

Non used inputs are shorted, dip switches are 1-ON, 2-ON, 3-OFF.

Any suggestions?

So after some testing and thinking I disregarded Banner's recommendation about a voltage source of 16 to 30V for the analog output.

I used a separate source of 10V (instead of 24V) and I started to get values in the PLC. After adjusting a little the output span in the Banner module now I can measure 5V at A+ and A- at 20mA.

I guess that the opamp inside the EM 321 does not like voltages above its supply (which I suppose is 0-10V or -5  to +5V).
