Use Indirect Addressing for DBs?

DLittlejohn412 Posts: 55 Rating: (1)	Hello I need some help with indirect addressing. Can it be used for DBs? Can it be used as part of the address? My example: I am trying to Call FC1001, a function I created. One of my inputs is ALARM that is of type UDT1002. When I perform the Call for FC1001, I am trying to do this L 1000 T INDEX //A Temp variable of type (I have tried Byte, DInt, Word, DWord) Call FC1001 ALARM:= DB[INDEX].ALARM.HL1 //This will not compile... If I use Call FC1001 ALARM:=DB1000.ALARM.HL1 //This comiles and looks like it will work. How can I use [INDEX] to call the DB I want to use?

DLittlejohn412 Posts: 55 Rating: (1)	OK.... So I did the OPN OPN DB [#INDEX] CALL "AI_CALL_TEST" EU :=DB[#INDEX].EU ALARM:=DB[#INDEX].ALARM.HL2 but it still doesn't like the inputs to the FC1001... So I tried adding some L/Ts into another DB of the same type... "INDIRECT" Now Itried OPN DB [#INDEX] L DBW 10 T "INDIRECT".EU L DBW 16 T "INDIRECT".ALARM.HL2.LIMIT CALL "AI_CALL_TEST" EU :="INDIRECT".EU ALARM:="INDIRECT".ALARM.HL2 Which compiles.... But in this way, I would have to do L/T of all my sub-addresses within the DB? I feel like I am getting closer to the solution. Can , ordoI copy DB1000 (TE_01) into another DB, (DB999) and then just use DB999 to call FC1001?

Say for example EU is BOOL and HL2 is INT then you do as OPN DB [#INDEX] CALL FC "AI_CALL_TEST" EU= DBX0.0 ALARM=DBW2 Assuming you have defined EU as first bit having address DBX0.0 and HL2 having address DBW2

Thank you for the help up this point! I am at least making progress... Now, in this case, ALARM is supposed to be a reference to another UDT that is a sub-part of the UDT I am calling.. DB1000 is based on UDT1000 UDT1000 0.0 RAW INT 2.0EU_LOW REAL 6.0 EU_HIGH REAL 10.0 EU REAL 14.0 RETURN WORD 16.0 ALARM UDT1001 UDT1001 HL2 UDT1002 HL1 UDT1002 LL1 UDT1002 LL2UDT1002 UDT1002 0.0 LIMIT REAL 4.0 LIMIT_DB REAL etc... When I call the DB, do I have to put all of the individual sub parts in the IN/OUT of the FC, or will it work by just telling it the parent UDT?

For example for element DB.Alarm.HL2.Limit you can use DBD16 for passing this parameter to FC. If you have defined IN_OUT parameter of FC as UDT1001 then you need to declare the TEMP varable of the calling block as UDT1001 and then pass this variable to FC. One picture is equal 1000 words so have a look at attached picture. Attachment udt.jpg (266 Downloads)

I think what I am taking away from this is that there is not a way to load the entire contents of the UDT into the FC... at least not in this manner we are discussing. My goal is to have the FC be a single set of logic that I can call for many analog devices and solve for all of the alarms for each one. Also, each alarm is supposed to have multiple addresses associated with it. ALARM. LIMIT DEADBAND DELAY_TIME RESET_TYPE ACTIVE UNACK SEVERITY Etc.. I'm thinking further, that rather than trying to OPN the DB and then CALL the FC, I should Set the index number, pass that into the FC and then OPN the DB inside the FC, where I can then use all the address offsets to access all the sub-components of the DB I need to perform the logic.
