DS402 (or CiA402) implementation with motion technology

simonspt Regular Member Joined: 3/25/2015 Last visit: 11/15/2024 Posts: 71 Rating: (2)	Good evening, I was wondering it it's possible to use standard MC functions to control a non-PROFIDrive axis with a S7-1500 CPU (not technologic, just basic positioner or speed axis). I am aware that DS402 (or CiA402) is based on a CanOpen implementation (or EtherCAT). I'm interested in using Cyclic Synchronous Position , to create a custom ramp profile for the drive. I have a bunch of Lenze i950 drives that support CiA402 drive profile as well as pre-configured applications like Speed and Position controller. Preconfigured applications, can be controlled with PROFINET , although they are not PROFIDrive compliant, and they require the use of specific FBs. I think CiA402 configuration needs EtherCAT fieldbus to work. My final question is: if I use a PROFINET to EtherCAT gateway (realtime) , mapping all required PDOs, and I set my S7-1500 cpu to be RT synchronous master, would i be able to issue MC commands to the axis?

You can connect TO via data block to the drive, when the available telegramm is not suitable. https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109781848 5.4 Connect drive/encoder via data block (S7-1500, S7-1500T) Creating the data block for data connection 1. Create a new data block of type "Global DB". 2. Select the data block in the project tree and select "Properties" from the shortcut menu. 3. Disable the following attributes under Attributes and accept the change with "OK": – "Only store in load memory" – "Data block write-protected in the device" – "Optimized block access" for technology version < V4.0 4. Open the data block in the block editor. 5. Create a new tag on "Add" in the block editor. 6. For the new tag, enter "PD_TELx" completely in the "Data type" column. The "x" stands for the telegram number. Example: "PD_TEL5" for standard telegram 5 You have created a tag structure of the type "PD_TELx". This tag structure contains the "Input" tag structure for the input area of the telegram and the "Output" tag structure for the output area of the telegram. Note "Input" and "Output" relate to the view of the closed loop position control. For example, the input area contains the actual values of the drive and the output area contains the setpoints for the drive. For the data connection via a data block, "Input" and "Output" must always be in of the "PD_TELx" tag structure. Do not use standalone tag structures for "Input" and "Output", such as "PD_TEL5_IN". The data block may contain the data structures of multiple axes and encoders and other contents.

How did you go getting this working? I am in a similar position, some of the drives we use have DS402/CiA402 available but not ProfiDrive - and I'd love to be able to control them as an axis rather than writing a ton of wrapper code for each drive we have to use.

mc-expert Member Joined: 4/20/2016 Last visit: 10/10/2024 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I am exactly in this position, Siemens PLC but Lenze drives - and I need to do kinematics (so a T-CPU it is). It would be a lot more simple with an S210 or S120 but no, clients insists on Lenze drive and Siemens PLC.
