What isInsulation Monitor?I came across this term during a retofitting job.please help me out

Aninsulation monitoring devicemonitors theungrounded systembetween anactive phase conductorandearth. It is intended to give an alert (light and sound) or disconnect the power supply when theresistancebetween the two conductors drops below a set value, usually 50 kΩ(sample of IEC standard for medical applications). The main advantageis that the ungrounded or floating system allows a continuous operation of important consumers such as medical, chemical, military and etc. Even if there is a failure (i.e., phase touches ground) there is still no danger to the personnel and to the application.
