ThaKibosh Bronze Member Joined: 5/31/2011 Last visit: 8/6/2024 Posts: 190 Rating: (31)	Because the S7-1200/1500 CPU's now have a web server, and WinCC Unified also works with Javascript, I am currently busy learning this language. Because of this, of course I came across Node.js and have already made my fist application. So yeah, I'm a n00b... Now I was wondering if Node.js is also fully available on the IOT2040/IOT2050 hardware. Or are there certain things I should keep in mind if I were to purchase an IOT20x0 to run Node.js on? I've already looked for a guide or FAQ but haven't come across anything that specifically discusses node.js, what's possible or are there any limits? How to set this up, transfer files, auto start the application, maybe set up a direct connection with Visual Studio Code (if possible), can you also easily install all packages via npm, etc... (many many questions) Anyone have experience with node.js on the IOTs? Does it run stable? Is it a good idea to run your own javascript apps in a production environment?

We are running Node-Red on all Example Images, so it is proven that it works ;) On the IOT2040 Example Image V3.1.1 NodeJS 8 is installed. It is not possible to upgrade the version, due to incompatibilities with the CPU. The IOT2050 Example Image V1.1.1 runs NodeJS 10. The IOT2050 Example Image V1.2.2 runs NodeJS 12. I have no experience in creating own NodeJS applications, but you could follow any tutorial in the internet, there should be no IOT20x0 specific topics. Best regards!

The IOT-2050 is supposed to have 20x digital inputs and outputs, but I don't really see those described anywhere? Is this via an extra module that you have to install? The starter kit has an extra module with a few IOs but not 20. Is there perhaps additional information about this? I can't find any order numbers for extra modules on the IOT-2050 in the Siemens mall.

You can use this interface for 3,3V/5V inputs/outputs and other functionality. For 24V inputs/outputs you can use the Siemens I/O Module (6ES7647-0KA01-0AA2)with 5DIs, 2AIs and 2DOs. There is as well a Siemens Shield with 10x 24V DIs (6ES7647-0KA02-0AA2) Best regards!
