Currently I am involved in an “Obsolescence Project”, meaning upgrading  control system hardware that is obsolete and spares are no longer available.   The vendor for a particular scope of the project dealing with Siemens based control panels is recommending that almost all the component be replaced, due to their lifecycle either being obsolete or active/mature. Part 2.

Items (8) thru (11) are ET-200M components which are scheduled to be phased out in Oct 2023, meaning spares will be available fora minimumof 10 years.   Given the size of the install base it is likely Siemens will continue to have spares available for a much longer time.    The replacement unit, ET-200MP, while appearing similar is quite different, the Remote Module, all IO, even the mount DIN rail have to be replaced.

What is your opinion for migrating to ET-200M today?

Couple of key notes.

1. Panel and equipment condition and environment are VERY GOOD.
2. Budget is a big concern for the client.
