Analog Input active or passive

Tom66 Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hi, The analog card 1KF02 is active or passive.? I remember years ago you could select on the side of the card whether channels were active or passive but cant seem to anymore. Does this mean we have to use passive channels? ie plc powering the loop. I also see what we dont supply 24 volts to the card itself so how does the card supply the loop. Thanks, Tom

Can the 1KF02 module be set up as an Active card or loop powering the loops rather than the PLC. I have 3 analog channels I need with 4-20mA passive(plc powered), 1 channel required to be active and another channel to be PT100. This card looked like the only possibility. Thanks, Tom

You may also find the following FAQ's helpful (note too the additional links in the top of each page): How should you connect and wire measuring transducers and M connections taking the example of the SM331 (6ES7331-7KF02-0AB0 and 6ES7331-1KF01-0AB0)? What measures do you need to take for error-free operation of the analog input modules SM331 (6ES7331-7KF02-0AB0 and 6ES7331-7KB02-0AB0)? I hope this helps

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (259)	Just a little clarification of fritz's post- 2 wire means passive sensor (can be considered as variable resistor) and active board (jumper D) 4 wire means active sensor (means sensor has external power supply) and passive board (jumper C) Please mention, that you can damage module if you connect active sensor to jumper pos.D.

Tom66 Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hi, Just to clarify again, There are no jumpers on the 1KF02 analog input module.- unless do I have to remove the casing on the card, which dosnt look feasible. The 1KF02 card has 8 passive channels which cannot be reselected as active (plc not powering loop). Correct?

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 5/31/2023 Posts: 2966 Rating: (1025)	Hello Tom66 you are correct, the 1KF02 has no range modules and is NOT capable to power 2 wire (or passive) Instruments(external loop power supply is required if you want to connect these). I suppose I also need to apologise for not reading your post carefully enough (you were talking about the 1KF02 and I replied with a reference to the7KF02).

Tom66 Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	On the same vein, is there an analog input card that has ability for 4-20 mA and also selectable active/passive channels. I need 4 analog input channels. on the 1KF02 card, the plc powers the loops correcf? ie 2 wire.

Laloesco Posts: 33 Rating: (5)	Hi Tom you can use the 331-7KF02 and put the jumper box in position D (2 wire 4-20mA). But you can use de 331-1KF02 to connect 02 wire transmitters. You just need to put a power supply inside the loop. You have to connet the L+ from PS to I+ of the transmitter, the the I- from the transmitter to the AI+ of the 331 module, then connect the AI- from the module to M of the power supply. This cirtuit supplies 24V to the transmitter, I always use this configuration with the 1KF02 module.

Tom66 Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hi, One other piece of information is I am looking for isolation between channels, so that restricts the type of card as well. Also 7KF02 can not be set as active or passive, passive only. ie the plc powering the loop. Therefore if an instrument is powering the loop it does not want 24 volts coming from the plc circuit so I need an analog card that does not send 24 vollts through the circuit. Is there an analog input card with isolation between channels and selectable passive or active channels. I remember years ago I thought I had this option. Thanks, Tom
