rahilansari Posts: 54 Rating: (0)	Dear Experts I want o archive my runtime data like alarms, reports, trends etc to some another folder which I can copy in case it require in future also I don't want my hard disk to occupy all memory space since the system drive is only 80 GB running on Windows NT 4.0 workstation. But I am very new to this system. Please advice me; should I use User Archive option??? If yes, should I purchase any extra license??? Provide me a detailed document to configure it if you have??? With this old version V5.1 the Sybase SQL Server was used. All runtimedata are stored in tables in one single runtime-database (<projectname>rt.db). There was an option "Storage", which you could use to export older data of Alarmlogging and Taglogging in CSV-format cyclically to external harddrives, This was important, because the size of the runtime-database should not become > 2 GB. If you do not have the option "Storage" (has nothing to do with the "Storage Plus" for the newer versions of WinCC), you could write an own C-script for exporting the data from the runtime-database. rahilansari Posts: 54 Rating: (0)	Dear bg2492 I have gone through some manuals and yes I should go with the storage option also I have storage license on both the servers 1 & 2. But I tried to configure it but it is not working since the system is existing. Could you please advice me,some steps or the points which I should keep in mind to redfine the storage settings. my .DB file in both servers is already 5 GB now. Please advice me. Thanks Raheel

bg2492 Diamond Member Joined: 5/16/2014 Last visit: 9/12/2022 Posts: 7298 Rating: (2172)	Hello Rahel, the configuration of Storage is somewhat strange, many customers had have problems with it in past. What is your target device for archiving (optical or JAZ or other HD on the same PC or share in network ? If you use a HD in the same PC, you should create a folder ("Archive") and create a share. Then use the share with UNC-name (i.e. \\COMPUTER\Archive) but not directly the local drive (i.e. D:\Archive) for the archivingdrive. Do never activate "Diskmonitoring", use only the "Repetition" with "Swap" for Alarmlogging and Taglogging. Report is usually no needed, there are no report data in the runtimedatabase. If the plant was running some years and the runtimedatabase is 5 GB, you have to archive a lot of data. Therefore you should set for "Data older then" a higher number of weeks (i.e. 500) and degrease this value after every succesfull archiving step by step. rahilansari Posts: 54 Rating: (0)	Dear bg2492 Thanks for the valuable information you provided. In my case I am swapping the data to a Drive on the PC itself. In my case the existing folder is named as "BACKUP" I shared that folder and started doing "Swap manually". I can see something is updated in the folder but how I can open and see the privious alarms, do I need to import it? I can see in my BACKUP folder alarm.csv file is 0KB!!! But I got some Reports.EMF and Tag files. Thanks Raheel

bg2492 Diamond Member Joined: 5/16/2014 Last visit: 9/12/2022 Posts: 7298 Rating: (2172)	HelloRaheel, if you have got no messages in the export file, you have either really no messages in the timerange, you have exportet or you mayhave configured the message archive as "Cyclic Archive" instead as "Continuous Archive", Only "Continuous Archives" will be exportet by Storage. With "Cyclic Archive" the data will be deleted automaticallyafter the projected number of days. With Taglogging, only "Sequence Archives" will be exportet by Storage. rahilansari Posts: 54 Rating: (0)	Dear bg2492 I did the changes as you instructed and I got 3 GB of data in the Archiv folder but still my "Project"RT.DB file is of the same size and this is making my hard disk even full in size. Is there any option where I can minimize the RT.DB file size after archiving it. AlsoI have connected a network hard disk of size 3TB, can I create a folder directly on the Hard disk and archive on it from both server 1 and server 2. Please advise. Thanks Raheel

Yes, after exporting data with Storage, the database does not shrink automatically. The recordsets will only be marked, that they can be overwritten. The means the database will not grow futhermore. If you would like the shrink the database, you have to start "scview.exe" (a toolset from Sybase) via "Run". Here can you shrink or restore the database. You a user "dba" and the password is "sql".
