Best method to log data to a database

What is the recommended "best" method for logging data to a database like SQL Server?

However, is using a script the only way to do it? I'm using TIA Portal v13 -- Win CC Runtime Advanced.

I see that there is a database option for "log" when you set up logs in the historical data area of Win CC, but I don't see how to map that to an actual database and haven't been able to find an explainer via the web.

Yes thanks. I got this working.

Another question -- is there anyway to force WinCC to just create a new log file when doing a cyclical log? Win CC seems to limit the log files to a maximum of 500000 datapoints, even you are logging to a database. Can you make it just create a new log and not write over at the first data point once it hits 500000?
