Change CP 340 for CPU 314 to communicate KTP 700

Hello friends, thanks to all people that replies my dudes related with CP 340 communication, now this for me is clear.

Actually my PLC is communicated through a CP 340 with a too old Italian panel. I need migrate to a KTP 700 with MPI protocol but this kind of module (CP 340) is not compatible with this protocol.

The unique way to communicate my new panel with my PLC is through the CPU 314, this CPU has MPI protocol, but really I'm not sure what are the register's or block's in the logic that I need modify to create the new communication across MPI.

Someone that give me some tip, what is the best way to start..

in this case of MPI connection between CPU and KTP, simply in your SW for panel (WinCC ???) you need point to PLC memory as you need, f.ex. you have in PLC some INT on MW100, so on panel SW you can define your TAG with point to this MW100 without problems. Also you can point to Data Block and read/write to/from it - f.ex. DB4.DBW100. Also you can work with bit memory. You don't need programme any communication, simply only define memory areas what are defined on PLC. Via this system you can read/write values between PLC and Panel. Important is that you must define connection type on panel (MPI/DP/...) and type of connected PLC type. This is simple info how it Works.

From the attachment your CPU is programmed with STEP7 "classic", so KTP700 use Tia Portal it's possible that you have to use this:

Combined configuration with WinCC (TIA Portal) and STEP 7 V5.x - ID ... 

Please tell us the code of your CPU 6ES7 314-xxxxx-xxxx and if you want of your panel 6AV2 123-xxxxx-xxxx

 Thanks Duris_I,  I was thinking that I needed modify the logic, or change some register to redirect the data to read/write for MPI CPU 314 port. Now I've a new question, Are the FB2 and FB3  blocks used for communication? For especific communication? In this blocks I dont need change nothing? So sorry man for this question, Im a Rockwell user and this topics are so new for me.

no problem with questions, yes, FB2 and FB3 are communication instructions for user communication, in case of f.ex. you need prepare communication with barcode reader or with another device with defined message structure, simply you need know HOW messages looks. In this blocks you only have input and output field that are needed for functionality of communication, simply f.ex. start instruction, giving status of success execution, error status, ... I think same system is on every Automation systems, you can prepare your own communication. On other side you have prepared implemented ready use protocols like DP, MPI, ... f.ex. for Exchange data between panel and PLC without your intervention to functionality, only need configure needed parameters depended to protocols.

Sorry for the delay, I heard some of my friends, they told me they had seen this panel but do not remember so well, however, you could do one thing, I do not know what level you are in programming, but you could see where it is called the FB3 P_SEND which is what transmits the data to panel "maybe", the parameter DB_NO as "INT" if it is a fixed number or if it is connected to a variable as MW or DBx.DBWx, and the same in the FB2 P_RCV the parameter DB_NO as "INT". The respective DBB_NO as "INT" are the length of parameter express in BYTE.

But then you should know the "machine operation" because surely you will also have a few buttons from the panel that will make something work on the machine. From your attachment you see data blocks as DB 100,101,102,103,104,105, it is possible, "maybe" they are those who exchange data between PLC and panel, maybe not everyone, but they have the same length "292". If you want to start with this....

look, probably your old Italian panel has RS-232 serial interface to communicate with PLC via CP340 with defined frames format. I remember lot of this kind of panels with this communication system. If you want migrate old project to new KTP700, simply new panel doesn't support this interface, it has implemented other interfaces, also protocols. In this case you don't need that CP34x card. You simply make connection via MPI ports, simply this is RS-485 interface, you don't need prepare any communication programming on PLC side. I'll be look to old panel registers/ bit memory defined types and compare them with PLC DB blocks/memory areas, mean also type definition. If you'll have look about all needed TAGs, simply you can implement them inside new visualization with that defined types and address area from PLC. Nothing more. Is this what you want implement?
