Configure DBs to be retentive when they are created

Hi Denilson,

currently I have a project with almost 400 instance DB's (non optimized).

By default they were all created wiith no retentivity but I need all of them to retain the values.

Is there a way to configure them to be retentive when they are created or an easy way to make them all retentive after creation besides changing them one by one?

I don't think there is a way to create a DB with all variable retain since there is no variable in the DB when you create it.

I did the test and it is really easy to set all the variable to retain.

#1 Check the "Retain" box for the first variable.

#2A Select the bottom right of the retain box of the first variable, drag & drop to the last variable.

#2B You can also Ctrl+C the retain box of the first variable and Ctrl+V after selecting the retain box of all other box. (Click second retain box, hold Shift and click last retain box)

thanks for your reply.

If you use FB's you will create one instance DB with a full structure every time you use that block. I have almost 400 (and increasing)!

Since I am using non optimized blocks I can only set all variable retained or not, and thats fine for me...

My problem is that I have to open each DB one by one and make all variable retained by setting the first one. I have to do this 400 times!!!!

For a software that is supposed to make you program a plc in less time... There must be a way to select all DB's and set all varibles to retain values at once or something like that.

I figure out that with optimized blocks its very easy to set this on the FB itself and recompile everything. And its done. But when I change to non optimized block it sets every variable to non retain by default and I cant figure out a way to change this beaviour

At the moment I will use a keyboard and mouse macro software to do this because I cant find a other easy way.

if retentive area is too small try to save them onto flash on brownout.

I have a recipe system where recipes are in the DB and after recipe edit I store DB in FLASH

and on power-up DB is reloaded from flash. all values do survive power cycle.

I am not sure what time is required to save it and as a consequence what limit of data you have.

To make things faster you can structure program to use multiple instances and then save couple of big instance DBs to flash which will be faster.

It really looks like a bad joke! The other big PLC brand has everything retentive by default. 

Now with TIA V15 it still is not possible.....  and this is 2018!  not enough memory pfff. If that is the case someone needs to go back to the drawing board. 

Come on Siemens developers.... Add a checkbox to the properties of an FB to set all instance variables to retentive by default at creation time of the DB. 

Let us programmers decide if we want to switch it OFF in special cases where we don't want retentive behavior.

My opinion conflicts with yours. Retentive DBs in our systems are few.  I would concede that a type of setting would not be harmful to have.

I completely agree with #dP. 

Having all DBs retentive by default is plain and simple covering up bad design decisions, or lack of any design decisions at all. 

I enjoy having someone being in my corner, but I hope you can agree that no two automation systems are the same. Frankly we do not know or understand the processes and circumstances Remark works with.

Let us agree there is a school of thought that wants as few retentive data; another requires as much possible. You and I are in synch with what Siemens have in mind, other brands and Remark are in synch.

Another topic following a similar theme - I would like to see ALL tags (UDT / PLC-tag / DB / code) by default to not have any HMI linking available. It would be nice to have an option to set which tag attributes combination should be your personal default. Such option would make both Remark and me happy.
