Connect to and upload from S7-315-2PN/DP

Hello,

I will visit a site with a new machine and need to connect to the PLC. I have some information and pictures indicating the following:

• CPU: 6ES7315-2EH14-0AB0
• Ethernet switch.
• Ethernet plug mounted on electrical panel door
• Wiring diagram indicating the plug and the PLC's PN1 are both connected to the Ethernet switch.

Is it correct that the PLC may be programmed with TIA Portal (not sure of the version) or classic Step 7 ?

If so, what would be the best way to find out which platform was used to program it?

I have access to Step7 classic, TIA 16 Professional and Simatic Automation Tool, which would be the best software to start with in order to determine what's on the PLC.

It's not so new anymore if it has an 300 series PLC.

Best would be to get the original Engineering copy of the program. There's no way of knowing if Simatic Manager was used or if TIA was used and which version of TIA.

When you are able to upload the program, there will be no symbols or comments in the whole program, since they only exist in the engineering copy of the program.

Would you be able to help me answer the first part regarding connecting to the PLC.

you are using a SIMATIC S7-300 CPU 315-2 PN/DP. The PN stands for PROFINET, so you can connect the PLC using an Ethernet cable. Other possibilities would be PROFIBUS or MPI, but for them you will need special adapters.

You won't need some special driver, everything you will need will be installed together with STEP 7.
