CPU 417H: both in master mode

Ajing Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	[:cry:] It's been a long time I am having a tough time solving redundancy problems on the CPU 417H almost the same to this problem - though mine I believe is worse. The plant is using PCS7 V5.1 for more than 5 years and the redundant controllers are working just fine. One day, the plant operation went crazy. At first we thought the problem is on the pressure control valve. But when we went to the controller we found that both CPUs of the H system are in MASTER mode and the following LEDs are lit: REDF, IFM1F, IFM2F. We turned off the second CPU and the plant went back to normal operation. During the plant shutdown, we tried to solve the redundancy failure. We tried replacing the following with spares: CPU 417, sync modules, sync cables and even the rack. But we are not successful. Both CPUs are MASTER and the ET200Ms get crazy selecting to which CPU to connect. After two weeks, the same problem occured to a different set of CPU417H controller. [:P] Was there a power down right before this behaviour? Have somebody start the reserve when the link between the CPUs was gone. Normally this only could happen when the link between the two CPUs is down,the reserve is then going in STOP, whensomebody switches the reserve from RUN to STOP and again to RUN (the CPU could then not "see" that the other is still the master) then you have two masters. [:o] Check the Syncmodules if they are right placed and locked with the screws. You may gently tick on the modules to see if they are placed good, the only thing that could happen is that the Reserve is going in STOP (DON''T start the Reserve if the Link is still gone). When then taking out the module and place it back, and test it again you know if the modules are right placed. [;)]
