How did S7 started using little endian format?

However i would love to understand: how did Step7 become little endian? Was step 5 little endian as well? What endianess is used by other Siemens product - WinCC 7.4 etc Regards

fritz Diamond Member Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 11/12/2024 Posts: 3027 Rating: (1057)	Hi Satoshi_Nakamoto Big Endian rules in all S5 CPU's, S7-300 and 400 CPU's and non-optimized DB's of S7-1200's and 1500's (for reasons of backward compatibility). Little Endian is now used though for optimized DB's of S7-1200's and 1500's. See also chapter 2.6.3 of the S7-1200 and S7-1500 programming guideline for more.
