IM vs. M LAD writing

markheuer Posts: 158 Rating: (1)	I've been looking for this answer for years and have yet to get an answer from Siemens or anyone else anywhere....hoping there are new poeple on here that can help.... Using LOGO comfortsoft (version 7.1.5 but have had same problem in last 5 or 6 revisions too) I write programs in LAD format and do not have time to learn the apparently 'better' FBD.. I have inherited a program which has been in use for many years..There is an 'IM' coil used by the original author (not available) in the program. It appears to be used in a manner which I would typically use an 'M' coil. There is no mention of 'IM' in the software help. The 'problem' with it, is that it appears to have limitations on connectivity, when I try to tie to it, occasionally the program will freeze for about 3 minutes then resume with no information given as to why or what's going on. Nobody at Siemens....if they're even familiar with the 'IM'....can tell me the difference between 'M' and 'IM'. I've spoken to Siemens, tech support, engineers and vendors! What is 'IM' and how does it differ from an 'M'?? Why is it so difficult to get this seemingly simple question answered??

IM are Internal Marker (internal flags) and are used to complete one line (relais coil) and then get the result of this line as an "normal closed contact" to an nother line. This flages are used internaly. In FBD you don't need it because you connect via a graphical line. To get IM's in LAD: place a coil and in the dropdown scroll to the to or add in the head of the dropdown I. Then the IM can be selected. There is not limitation of numbers for IM's but you need to know which number to use the right. So from my point of view FBD programming is much easier then LAD. Hope this helps Pretty clear to me. IM flags are always normally closed?? why? How does it differ from an "M" relay coil? Here's a screenshot of the part that locked up when I try connecting M18 to IM11. I've since replaced IM11 with an 'M' and it did not lock up when I connected M18 to it, but have not tested yet. Attachment lad ss.jpg (232 Downloads)

I have tried a few things in LAD (wich i never use), see pdf. IM is not only NC, you can use it as NC and NO. The Help tells: You can use an internal flag to terminate a current path and continue it in a new path. Contrary to theflag block, this does not use a flag resource of your LOGO! device. Difference with a M block is you can't pick any number at the Relais coil, There is only 1 IM. every time you used 1 IM coil you get a new one with a higher number. markheuer Posts: 158 Rating: (1)	Ah ok.. :) I don't get any message, it just locks up and comes back to life after 3 minutes or so....I still don't see a real difference, although if it does act like a simple continuation of a circuit, it is represented oddly. I still have to test the program where I swapped the IM for an M and see if there's any difference in real life. Thanks!
