IM151 sporadic failure with strange LED pattern

nazareth Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Hello there! just to bring up this thread: any news? Here the story goes on. Until now i found7 cards (we have 65 cards in the factory). I discovered that earlier another 3 cards were replaced. Local Siemens does not know the answer. I started an "official" support call to the German Siemens. They also gave no answer.Since the cards are working in validated systems(a change of the type/version vould meana lotof documentation), and Siemensdid notguarantee that the version 4 cards will work fine, Idont really want tobuy 60 new cards... After a longer negotiation with our suplier, Siemens offered to sell us v3 cards on half price if we send the failed modules back :-/ Now i'm trying to find another ways... naz.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Well.... if you think about replacing so many units, why do you not try to get a specialist for ET 200 S and PROFIBUS on site? There are tools available to check such systems. SIEMENS offers such Service Calls on site, try to talk to your representative of SIEMENS. It is true, this is not cheap, but maybe cheaper than replacing complete Systems. Best regards J_Bell

We are producer of hydraulic presses and we use for every machine the same installation with 1 ET 200S system and we are use this since 2003 in more then 100 systems. Now (last week) we have in two system the same problem with the IM 151-1 Standard with the no. 6ES7 151-1AA03-0AB0 I call it version 3. We get the information from our customers the system was sometimes in error with Profibus error on the cpu. After restart, the system was running one ore two days. We try to check the System but we didn't find an error (system was running, without any error). But last week I was get a call, even a restart didn't solve the problem. Now we could be able to check the system, but we get only the infomationModul not present. But now we get the same blinking code: SF blinks 3 times, BF blinks 8 times. The SF bliks 3 times short, the BF blinks 1 time short, 1 time long and 6 times short.or in CoSer code SF: bbb BF: bBbbbbbb. b = short, B = long. We changed the IM 151 version 3 with a IM 151 version 4 (the new one) and the systems are running now. On a test-system at home, I was installed the IM 151 version 3 to check it and I get the same error after few minutes with the same blinking code. The error we get only on the IM 151-1AA03-0AB0 systems and not on older systems. May be intresing is the deliver time ofboth machines wasOktober 2004. I think this problem is only in the IM 151, not the system around, because we checked it on a running system and get the same error as bevore. I will try to get any informaton from Siemens Germany but I think it will needs a long time or... Hopefully we didn't get more IM 151 problem with the version 3 in the future, because in the past the system was very stable and easy to use. br mbubi

Calm_down Posts: 324 Rating: (30)	Hi guys... ... I think you have the same problem I had for quite a while, I got rid of this after a call at the Customer Support. It is really the best idea to call them or to open a Service Request about the ET 200 S, trust me. Stay calm.

What is clear: this is a sequence coded by one of the Siemens' programmers, and it is undocumented, but it must have a reason... Until I don't know the reason a simple card change is only a temporary solution.But I wanted to close the problem once and for all, so i started an official Support Request and I explained my problem. The answer was " Thank your for your E-Mail. Your question about the flashing code 3x SF and 8X BF. Your modul(6ES7 151-1AA03-0AB0) is defect, you have to change it by the new 6ES7 151-1AA04-0AB0. This flashing code is not listed in the manual. If you have further questions don't hesitate to contact me again. Best regards " I wanted to know the meaning of the code and/or the reason of the fault. I know that the module is defect, it is obvious. I also know that this code is not documented. This is why I started the official Service Request. So I did not hesitate. I told themagain that I want to know the reason; simply changing the cards is not acceptable. Without any comments after a couple of week Siemens offered to sell new cards on a half price if we send back the faulty modules. It seems that they did not really understand my problem... So I did not hesitate and tried an other way. I asked Siemens if the new Ver.4 cards will solve my problem permanently (this would mean that Ver.3 cards have an internal bug and they can produce thesymphtoms under normal circumstances) otherwise I want an investigation.After a couple of weeks (without any explanation or answer) Siemens offered new cards for free if we send back the faulty modules to them. They also asked me to report if this solves the problem -- which is also not possible sinceeven the "faulty" Ver.3 cards are able to work without any problems for a year... Here we go.

Hi, Please contact the local Siemens representatives and ask if they could place the information that is generatedby you directly to the German colleagues. My advise, don't throw the "defective"-1AA03 away, they might ask to do a investigation on these modules...
