IM151 sporadic failure with strange LED pattern

CoSer Regular Member Joined: 6/1/2007 Last visit: 10/5/2024 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hello there, Once at several weeksthe sameET200S slave has a fault &the IM's LEDs displays this endless sequence: SF blinks 3 times, afterwards BF blinks 8 times. ON led is steady on. On-line diag: "Module not present". Following a IM151 power restart the situation is back to normal. The IM151 & master CP were useless replaced. Does anyone know the meaning of this LED pattern or what would be the cause? Systeminfo: IM151 6ES7151-1AA01-0AB0, PM-E DC24V 6ES7138-4CA00-0AA0, 6x2DO 6ES7132-4BB00-0AA0, again the same PM-E, 3x2RO 6ES7132-4HB00-0AB0; CP443-5 Ext 6GK7443-5DX04-0XE0 v6.0; CPU416-2DP 6ES7416-2XK04-0AB0 v4.0; STEP7 v5.4 sp1 Many thanks.

Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 11/17/2023 Posts: 2705 Rating: (318)	Hi, Why do you have such a old IM 151-1AA01, -1AA04 is the actual one, when I look to the CP443-5DX04, thats a real new one. You could look also if the Master is up-to-date: New Firmware V6.1 for CP 443-5 Extended (6GK7 443-5DX04-0XE0)this update can be done by yourself if desired. For the old IM 151-1AA01 where no Firmware updates online possible.

I've got the sameproblem. - CPU: 414-3DP (414-3XJ04-0AB0) - ET200S: 151-1AA03-0AB0 - There are other slaves (11pcs) on the PROFIBUS network, they work well. First time i couldn't bring the thing to work so I needed to replace it. The second ET200S produced the same error after approx. 1 day. Then it was enough to switch the power supply off and on. Now we have the same error (a worker called me a couple minutes ago). An additional info: the 3rd blink of the BF is longer (bbBbbbbb) -- does this mean 4 (or 16) binary? I would really appreciate if someone could tell me what is wrong. Unfortunatelythis is a validated system so a firmware upgrade (or replacement to a new 1AA04 card) would mean tons of documentation... Until now i couldn't find documentationof this error. Is it possible that this is an undocumented error message? Many thanks! naz. edited: Now (3rderror in3 days)the 2nd blink of the BF was longer than the other 7. After a power off and on the ET200 was running 2-3 minutes and then it generated the same fault. So I replaced it.

Have you ever tried to put a Repeater inbewteen the failing Node and the other Network? These are just guessing’s, but I would check the Network. Best regards J_Bell

The failing node is somewhere in the middle of the network so i don't think that a repeater would solve the problem (we have a lot of similar networks in the building, even between the same rooms, withnearly the same length, etc., they all are working w/o repeaters). Tomorrow I will try to check the ground and power supply. I already asked the users to listen exactly what happens when the modulefails (maybe they find a coincidencewith e.g. a motor spin-up, heater start or something else)... Anyway, it is annoying that there is an error, the module sends a (perhaps) detailed error information, but there is no documentation (or i just didn't find it so far), sowe need to guess naz.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Nazareth, as far as I know does the DP Slave, just like all the other DP Slaves available, support the DP Status function. So if the DP Master asks the DP Slave it will send the Master a DP Diagnostics Telegram divided in two parts. 1. The DP Standard Diagnostics (6 Byte length) 2. The device specific Diagnostics Data. (depending on the fault found) So if your Master has contact to the DP Slave it can check this information. The IM was replaced. So we built a small Profibus network using a spare CPU, CP and those IM151-1. After couple of hours one IM went down into failure several times and some investigations were performed. We used a scopemeter to check the signals on the backplane bus.A brief sketch and the normal signals patterns are shown in the attachment; we noticed that these signals are visible regardless of Profibus cable connection or electronics I/O modules presence – power supply is all the IM needs to initiate such a communication on the backplane. Well, when the LED pattern shows SF: ‘BBB’, BF: ‘BBbbbbbb’ or 'BBbbbBbb' there was no transition on the data lines (V1=3.1V, V2&V3 were grounded). During the pattern SF: ‘BBB’, BF: ~~‘BbbbbbBb’~~ 'BbbBbbbb' there were no fast transitions visible on the scopemeter but a pure square wave; could be the fast transitions are the “real” data transfer. It seems these LED patterns shows an internal problem, probably in the ET200S backplane bus, due to a faulty IM151 or I/O module too. Hope to help.
