Internal Earth fault at Simocode PRO

Adi_EA ID Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Dear All, I was checking in the manual of Simocode PRO section earth fault monitoring (attached). For Internal earth fault function, there issuch note : Quote --- The normal operating condition up to 2 x Is. The effective Operating Current must be smaller than twice the Set Current Is. Fault Currents of > 30% of the Set Current Is will be detected Unquote -- From this statement, I have analyzed and come up with this theory : 1. Let sayI take current measurement module of 10 - 100A 2. Actual rated current from motor is 15A. 3. Based on the above statement, 2xIs will be 30A. This value (30A) is smaller than effective operating current, which is 100A. 4. Since this criteria is no fulfill, then I have to change the current measurement module with rangeof 2.5 - 25A. regarding above, couldany of you inform me whetherthese arecorrect or not. appreciated for any feedback regards adi Attachment Manual Simocode Pro V_060307_earth fault monitoring.pdf (437 Downloads)

LesPaul Posts: 467 Rating: (59)	hello Adi_EA ID Maybe you have misunderstoodsomething. The choice of the Current/Voltage Measuring module has nothing to do with the Earth-Fault Monitoring function. There are two different operating conditions (limiting values) for the Earth-Fault Monitoring. 1. If the measuredoperating current smalleras 2 x Is the simocode would trip with an value of -> 30% dependent from the adjusted Is. 2. If the measuredoperating currenthigheras 2 x Is the simocode would trip with an value of ->15% dependent from the adjusted Is. Pls note thateffective Operating Current is not the max. range of the usesd Current/Voltage Measuring modulebut rather the running current from the motor.

Adi_EA ID Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hello LesPaul thanks for the reply. So basically the setting for internal earth fault in Simocode are dependent on the actual motor current compare to 2 x Is. Another query,Are this value (-> 30% and ->15%) is value of summation from all 3 phases? If yes, thencmiiw, let say the actual motor current is 100A with Is 98A. Earth fault will trip if summation of all 3 phases is more than 30A. regards

srk Posts: 8 Rating: (1)	Yes, you have understood correctly. When motor current <2Is: EF trip if, Ir+Iy+Ib>30% of Is When motor current >2Is: EF trip if, Ir+Iy+Ib>15% of Is Note: Ir, Iy and Ib being the currents in the three phases. In your case motor will trip if Ir+Iy+Ib>29.4A
